As a Production Supervisor Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting and leading manufacturing operations within a dynamic production environment. This role provides exposure to frontline leadership, employee engagement, production planning, safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will partner closely with plant leadership to understand how supervisors drive operational performance while fostering a safe, productive, and positive work environment.\nWhat you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)\nWhile each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will include:\nProduction Operations\nSupport daily manufacturing operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives.\nMonitor production schedules and assist in meeting customer demand requirements.\nParticipate in daily production meetings and shift communications.\nGain exposure to assembly, machining, and shipping processes.\nAssist supervisors in coordinating workflow and resolving production issues.\nSafety Leadership:\nParticipate in safety observations and facility inspections.\nSupport safety initiatives and employee engagement activities.\nAssist with near-miss investigations and corrective action tracking.\nPromote a culture of safety accountability across the facility.\nEmployee Leadership & Development:\nShadow production supervisors to understand frontline leadership responsibilities.\nParticipate in employee coaching discussions and team meetings.\nSupport onboarding and training activities for new hires.\nDevelop effective communication skills with hourly associates.\nContinuous Improvement:\nIdentify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and workflow.\nParticipate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.\nAssist with standard work documentation and process updates.\nSupport and lead elements of a structured internship project.\nPerformance Metrics & Reporting:\nTrack and analyze key operational metrics, including safety, attendance, productivity, scrap, downtime, on-time delivery, and overtime utilization.\nDevelop reports and presentations to communicate findings to leadership.\nInternship Project:\nComplete a capstone project focused on improving plant performance in areas such as productivity, safety, quality, training effectiveness, or process standardization.\nPresent project results and recommendations to plant leadership at the conclusion of the internship\nWhat we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)\nWe each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:\nRequired Experience:\nCurrently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Human Resources, or a related field.\nDemonstrated communication skills and leadership potential.\nAbility to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization, including hourly production employees.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).\nPreferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\nPrevious experience in manufacturing, warehouse, agriculture, construction, military, or other hands-on environments.\nInvolvement in student organizations, athletics, or leadership activities.\nInterest in pursuing a career in manufacturing leadership, supervision, or operations management.\nEducation & Certifications:\nCurrent enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in a related field is required.\nTravel & Working Environment:\nMinimal travel required (less than 5%).\nPrimary work environment is an office within a manufacturing facility.\nHow we live our culture\nOur culture is at the center of what we do and, more importantly, who we are.
