As a Product Engineer, you will be working in a design and development role across engineering disciplines for complex projects across various product lines, components, controls, and materials. Responsibilities include a mix of product design and coordinating teams internally and externally to develop cost-effective new products, directing the work of engineers, technicians, and designers, ensuring integrity and compliance with codes and standards. Additionally, tasks involve software / control logic development, performing tests, technical bid evaluations, expediting vendor processes, and developing project plans. Success in this position requires extensive engineering experience, strong technical and communication skills, and the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges.\nThis role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.\nWhat you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)\nWhile each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:\nTechnical Leadership\nBe creative, develop new designs and solutions to problems.\nServe as a technical expert and consultant to sales and construction teams, both internally and in the field, as well as customers.\nAssign and review work of technicians, designers, and other engineers.\nTrain and mentor new engineering employees\nPerform engineering calculations to validate designs. \nLead design reviews and act as the primary engineering interface with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Product Management, Sales, and Customer Support.\nProduct Development Project Management\nDevelop project plans, manage projects and tasks to meet schedule.\nExecute project-specific document control.\nReview, approve, and control vendor-supplied engineering documents.\nProvide support to site erection and commissioning teams.\nDocumentation and Compliance\nDevelop project-specific operating and maintenance manuals.\nWrite engineering specifications for tower lines and components.\nFor contractual purposes, verify and provide proof of job completion and meeting specification requirements.\nSign and approve drawings for new and project specific designs and for drawings that are product standards.\nTesting and Support\nTroubleshoot, repair, and improve production equipment.\nConduct product testing during development and post-installation to verify software and data development.\nWitness third-party contractual tests.\nProvide pricing information for new quotes.\nWhat we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)\nWe each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:\nRequired Experience & Skills\n5+ years of experience\nIdeal Experience & Skills\nExperience with design for manufacturing methods\nExperience with solids-based CAD/CAM software\nExperience with SAP ERP Systems\nExperience in AutoCAD, MathCAD, RISA2D, and RISA3D\nProficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.\nExperience working with teams in different physical locations.\nExperience with software development and control systems\nBasic understanding of design and application of components for cooling towers.\nKnowledge of and ability to apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of HVAC equipment design.\nBroad knowledge and application of principles, practices, and procedures of cooling tower design and structural engineering to the completion of difficult assignments.\nHighly creative.\nStrong ability to visualize complex spatial geometry.\nPassionate about product development and persistent and patient enough to continue to strive for solutions to difficult problems. \nEducation & Certifications\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering\nMaster’s degree in Engineering or 5+ years work experience\nHas met all the educational requirements and standards to be certified as an EIT (Engineer in Training) after passing the FE exam\nTravel & Working Environment\nOnsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period.\nWillingness to travel at least 20% of the time. \nThe position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.\nKeyboarding/typing.\nAbility to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.\nAbility to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.\nAbility to communicate effectively verbally.\nHow we live our culture\nOur culture is at the center of what we do and, more importantly, who we are.
