The role supports patients, caregivers, and co-workers in experiencing emotional, spiritual, and relational healing through biblically grounded and trauma-informed care.\n\nWorking under the Spiritual Ministry Director and in collaboration with the Network Ministry Coordinator, the Counseling Ministry Coordinator ensures that professional and pastoral counseling services are effectively integrated into the patient journey, Co-worker care, and family support systems. \n\nThe Counseling Ministry Coordinator is an integral member of the Spiritual Ministry Department, responsible for\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nPrimary Duties:\n\nCounseling and Pastoral Care\n\nProvide individual, family, and group counseling sessions for patients, caregivers, and co-worker based on biblical principles and trauma-informed care.\nAssess spiritual, emotional, and psychosocial needs of patients and families and design appropriate counseling interventions.\nSupport caregivers in managing stress, grief, and crisis situations associated with hospitalization and treatment.\nOffer spiritual and emotional support to co-workers as assigned by the Spiritual Ministry Director.\nMaintain confidentiality and uphold ethical and professional counseling standards.\n\nProgram Development and Integration\n\nDevelop and oversee counseling protocols, tools, and resources tailored to the hospital context.\nCollaborate with the hospital ministry team to integrate counseling into ward ministry, Hope House programs, and discipleship activities.\nPartner with clinical and support co-workers to promote holistic healing addressing the emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial dimensions of care.\nSupport the hospital’s response to trauma or crisis events affecting patients, families, or Co-worker.\n\nCapacity Building and Mentorship\n\nTrain and mentor ministry co-worker, volunteers, and interns in basic counseling, listening, and trauma-informed care skills.\nFacilitate workshops and seminars on topics such as stress management, grief, emotional resilience, and family systems.\nProvide technical input to the Spiritual Ministry Director on psychosocial and counseling matters affecting patients and families.\n\nAdministration and Reporting\n\nMaintain accurate, confidential counseling records and documentation.\nSubmit timely monthly and quarterly reports to the Spiritual Ministry Director and Network Ministry Coordinator.\nCollect feedback and monitor counseling outcomes for program improvement.\nParticipate in network-wide training, peer learning, and capacity-building initiatives.\nPerform any other duties as assigned by the Spiritual Ministry Director.\n\nSecondary Duties:\n\nUphold the highest standards of quality, confidentiality, and professionalism in counseling practice.\nSupport hospital quality improvement initiatives (e.g., Safecare, DOH, etc.) through accurate documentation and ethical service delivery.\nEnsure a safe and welcoming counseling environment by adhering to infection prevention and control protocols.\nCommit to sustainable and eco-friendly work practices that promote stewardship and responsible resource use.\n\nContinuing Professional Development Activities\n\nIdentifies and pursues continuing professional development activities in line with their position and maintains professional records that provide evidence of activities completed.\nWorks with one’s supervisor to guide in mentorship and coaching for continual professional growth.\n\nOccupational Health & Safety Function\n\nFollowing & complying with H&S policies, processes & applying them to your own work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required.\nParticipating in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting well-being in the workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.\n\nPunctuality and Attendance\n\nReport to work as scheduled.\nReport to work on time as per schedule.\n\nParticipation in Meetings\n\nAttend and participate in department meetings as scheduled\nAttend and participate in general co-workers’ meetings as scheduled. \n\nOther Duties:\nPlease note that this position description is not intended to cover every task required of the co-worker. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time, with or without notice, as directed by the Spiritual Ministry leadership.\n\nEDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:\n\nBachelor’s degree in Christian Counseling, Psychology, or a related field (required).\nTheological or Christian ministry training (preferred).\nMinimum of 3 years of experience in biblical counseling, trauma care, or psychosocial support (preferably involving children and families).\nExperience working with children with disabilities or within hospital settings (preferred).\nCertification or training in trauma-informed or pastoral counseling (desired).\n\nThis position is a full-time fixed-term, renewable and based in Mbale.
