Apply today to join a firm that values technical excellence, professional development, collaboration, and meaningful contributions from its people.\nPosition Summary\nThe Audit Director will serve as a key technical and operational leader within the firm’s nonprofit and Single Audit practice. This individual will oversee complex engagements from planning through issuance, provide technical guidance, review financial statements and audit documentation, and develop managers, seniors, and staff into stronger engagement leaders.\nThe ideal candidate will have recent, hands-on experience serving nonprofit organizations and performing Single Audits under the Uniform Guidance and Government Auditing Standards. The Director will work closely with Partners and the Assurance Practice Leader while independently resolving technical matters, managing engagement quality and deadlines, and helping build a scalable and consistent service line.\nThis is a long-term leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys technical accounting and auditing, developing people, improving processes, and contributing to the continued growth of the practice.\nKey Responsibilities\nLead nonprofit financial statement audits and Single Audits from planning through completion and issuance.\n\nPerform meaningful director-level review of risk assessments, audit workpapers, compliance testing, financial statements, disclosures, reports, and engagement conclusions.\n\nEvaluate major-program determinations, direct and material compliance requirements, internal controls over compliance, audit findings, questioned costs, and reporting requirements.\n\nResearch and resolve complex accounting, auditing, financial reporting, and compliance matters.\n\nServe as a technical resource to partners, managers, seniors, staff, and clients.\n\nIndependently resolve matters appropriate for the Director level and exercise sound judgment regarding issues requiring partner or firmwide consultation.\n\nManage multiple engagements, client deadlines, staffing needs, budgets, realization, and engagement profitability.\n\nDevelop and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, responsiveness, and practical guidance.\n\nLead, mentor, and develop managers, seniors, and staff, with an emphasis on building technical knowledge and stronger independent reviewers.\n\nDevelop and deliver training related to nonprofit accounting, Single Audits, Yellow Book requirements, audit methodology, and financial reporting.\n\nHelp standardize engagement processes, review practices, technical tools, templates, and quality expectations across the service line.\n\nSupport the firm’s system of quality management, internal inspections, peer review, and engagement quality initiatives.\n\nCollaborate effectively with professionals across multiple offices and geographically dispersed teams.\n\nSupport recruiting, performance management, scheduling, succession planning, and professional development.\n\nParticipate in proposals, networking, client expansion, and other business-development activities.\n\nIdentify opportunities to expand the firm’s nonprofit, governmental, HUD, and related assurance services.\n\nContribute to firm leadership, strategic planning, operational improvements, and service-line growth.\n\nQualifications\nActive CPA license required.\n\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree preferred.\n\n10 or more years of progressive public accounting experience, including significant audit management and leadership responsibilities.\n\nRecent, hands-on experience with nonprofit financial statement audits and Single Audits.\n\nDemonstrated ability to lead and review complex engagements from planning through issuance.\n\nStrong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, GAAS, Government Auditing Standards, and the Uniform Guidance.\n\nExperience evaluating internal controls, compliance requirements, audit findings, and financial statement disclosures.\n\nAbility to research technical matters, document conclusions, and communicate recommendations clearly.\n\nProven ability to manage multiple engagements, competing deadlines, budgets, and engagement teams.\n\nStrong leadership, coaching, communication, client relationship, and organizational skills.\n\nAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively with firm leadership and engagement teams.\n\nCommitment to audit quality, staff development, accountability, and responsive client service.\n\nAbility to work effectively in a hybrid environment and travel to firm offices and client locations as needed.\n\nPreferred Experience\nExperience with nonprofit accounting matters such as contributions, donor restrictions, conditional grants, functional expenses, liquidity disclosures, and agency transactions.\n\nExperience with federal and state Single Audits involving multiple programs or complex compliance requirements.\n\nExperience with governmental audits, GASB financial reporting, HUD engagements, employee benefit plan audits, and private company audits.\n\nExperience with internal inspections, peer review, engagement quality review, or a firm’s system of quality management.\n\nExperience developing technical training and improving audit methodologies or engagement processes.\n\nExperience leading geographically dispersed or offshore engagement teams.\n\nDemonstrated involvement in proposals, RFPs, networking, cross-selling, or service-line growth.\n\nCompensation & Benefits\nThe total rewards package at Current includes base salary and benefits.\nOur salary ranges are competitive within the accounting industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry.
