This role partners with tax leadership on engagement strategy, risk management, client relationships, and team development while ensuring consistent quality, timely filings, and strong engagement economics.\nThe Director leads through senior managers, managers, supervisors, and engagement teams as assigned, combining technical judgment with practical client guidance and disciplined delivery.\nKey responsibilities\n· Lead a portfolio of tax compliance engagements, ensuring consistent quality, accurate documentation, and on-time delivery.\n· Set engagement strategy for complex clients, including risk assessment, planning expectations, staffing, timelines, and review depth; align decisions with tax leadership.\n· Review key tax judgments, high-risk areas, and engagement conclusions to ensure positions are supported and filing requirements are met.\n· Resolve escalated technical and client issues, coordinating research, specialist input, communications, and documentation as needed.\n· Oversee portfolio budgets, work in process, billing, realization, utilization, and rework; identify trends and implement corrective actions.\n· Coach and develop senior managers, managers, supervisors, and assigned engagement teams; provide clear priorities, feedback, and performance management support.\n· Build and maintain client relationships through clear executive-level communication, expectation-setting, and timely resolution of concerns; support client retention and growth.\n· Advance quality improvement, standardization, training, and technology adoption, coordinating with other service lines and specialists as appropriate.\nRequired qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.\n\nCPA license required, or equivalent active licensure as applicable.\n\nSignificant experience leading and reviewing tax engagements in a public accounting environment.\n\nAdvanced knowledge of federal and state tax concepts and compliance requirements.\n\nStrong engagement strategy and risk management skills, with the ability to lead leaders and manage multiple concurrent priorities.\n\nStrong client-facing communication, stakeholder management, and sound professional judgment.\n\nProficiency in Microsoft Excel and tax software and tools.\n\nTools and workflow\n· Monitor portfolio filing calendars, extensions, delivery milestones, staffing, capacity, and utilization.\n· Review engagement financials, including budgets versus actuals, billing, realization, and write-ups or write-downs.\n· Track technical issues, review notes, rework, compliance findings, and escalation plans to strengthen quality and risk management.\n· Use client feedback, retention trends, referrals, and growth opportunities to support client relationships and practice planning.\nSuccess expectations\n· Engagements are delivered on time with consistent quality, supported tax positions, and effective risk management.\n· Complex technical and client issues are resolved with timely communication and appropriate escalation.\n· Portfolio economics and team capacity are actively managed, with corrective action on delivery or budget variances.\n· Team leaders develop through coaching and accountability, and practice improvements are adopted consistently.\nCompensation & Benefits\nThe total rewards package at Current includes base salary and benefits.\nOur salary ranges are competitive within the accounting industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry.
