This role requires a strong technical leader who can drive architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and deliver highly available, secure, scalable and resilient applications that support millions of customers. This Staff Engineer will possess a deep expertise in Java-based distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, API development and modern software engineering practices. As a Staff Engineer and Technical Leader, you will partner closely with Product, Architecture, Security, Operations, and Engineering teams to build innovative solutions that improve healthcare experiences for our members, providers, and colleagues.\nExpectations for the Role:\nLeverage expertise to design and implement efficient and scalable solutions that meet business requirements and quality standards\nContribute to solution design and architecture discussions, collaborating with architects and senior engineers\nProvide input on technical feasibility, performance optimization, and scalability considerations to ensure that the overall solution meets the desired objectives\nParticipate in code reviews and ensures adherence to coding standards, best practices, and quality guidelines\nCommunicate and coordinate with team members to ensure alignment, provide technical insights, and contribute to decision-making processes\nContribute to the adoption of best practices, new technologies, and tools to enhance productivity, efficiency, and code quality\nParticipate in knowledge sharing activities, such as code reviews, tech talks, and workshops, to foster a culture of learning and collaboration within the team\nWork with other developers and team members to implement complex features, enhance existing functionality, and ensure the delivery of high-quality code\nProvide guidance and mentorship to junior developers, helping them improve their technical skills and grow professionally\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS\n7+ years of professional software development experience working with enterprise solution delivery in a large-scale distributed environment\n7+ years of hands-on Java application development experience, including experience with modern Java ecosystem frameworks\n5+ years of Java, Springboot development experience\n5+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise cloud initiatives and solutions with cloud computing technologies\n5+ years of designing and developing modern microservices and cost-effective APIs\n3+ years of experience working on CI/CD Pipeline automation\n3+ years of experience working in an Agile-based development environment\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\nAgentic AI / Generative AI experience\nHealth and wellness domain experience\nHands on experience working as full stack development when needed AngularJS, JavaScript, Oracle and other modern databases like NOSQL\nStrong understanding of Generative AI concepts and techniques, including but not limited to: Natural Language Processing (NLP), Text generation and summarization, Conversational AI and chatbots\nHands-on experience with NestJS, Node.js, and TypeScript application development.\nExperience developing and managing Apollo GraphQL APIs, Federation, and API Gateway patterns.\nAbility to create and execute on roadmaps that consider both progress and innovation as well as the need to scale reliably\nAbility to learn/work with emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in the Cloud/IT technology space\nAbility to collaborate across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and achieve broader organizational goals\n EDUCATION\nBachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)\nBUSINESS OVERVIEW\nBring your heart to CVS Health Every one of us at CVS Health shares a single, clear purpose: Bringing our heart to every moment of your health. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
