The Role…

As the Deputy Editor of Harper’s Bazaar, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the editorial vision of one of the world’s most distinguished fashion and culture brands.

Reporting directly to the Editor-in-Chief, you will be their senior editorial partner and the key person responsible for the smooth running of the magazine and its editorial operation. You will help set Bazaar’s agenda, oversee workflow from planning through to publication, ensure the highest editorial standards are maintained and act as a key decision-maker in the Editor-in-Chief’s absence.

You will contribute across print and digital, attending daily digital stand-ups and working closely with colleagues across the wider business to ensure Bazaar’s content is considered, consistent and compelling across every platform. You will also play a leading role in Bazaar’s events and commercial projects, and oversee the development of the brand’s membership proposition.

As a senior leader within the team, you will manage and support editorial colleagues, including the Membership Director, and help create an environment in which ambitious ideas, excellent journalism and high standards can thrive.

This is a role for an editor who is exceptionally organised, instinctive and full of ideas, with the authority and experience to run a high-profile editorial operation while understanding what makes Harper’s Bazaar distinctive.

Main Duties…

  • Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to shape and deliver Harper’s Bazaar’s editorial vision, acting as a trusted partner and key decision-maker in their absence, and taking responsibility for the magazine’s successful day-to-day operation.
  • Own the editorial workflow from planning through to publication, ensuring commissioning, copy, design, production and approvals move efficiently, deadlines are met and priorities are clearly communicated across the team.
  • Oversee all proofs and final editorial output, maintaining Bazaar’s exacting standards for quality, accuracy, tone and execution, and ensuring every issue is delivered to the standard expected of the brand.
  • Oversee editorial sections within the magazine, leading the commissioning, development and editing of content and ensuring each area makes a distinctive contribution to the wider Bazaar agenda.
  • Contribute actively across the wider Bazaar brand, including attending daily digital stand-ups and working with digital, audience, events, commercial and other teams to ensure editorial ideas and opportunities are developed effectively across platforms. Social and video will remain specialist areas within the wider team.
  • Play a leading role in Bazaar’s events and commercial projects, contributing editorial expertise, developing ideas and ensuring that activity involving the brand is aligned with Bazaar’s voice, audience and editorial standards.
  • Oversee and support the development of Bazaar’s membership proposition, working collaboratively across the business to ensure it is relevant, distinctive and aligned with the wider editorial strategy.
  • Lead, support and develop members of the editorial team, including the Membership Director, providing clarity, direction and constructive challenge while fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, accountability and consistently high standards.

What We Are Looking For…

  • An accomplished senior editor with significant experience in a premium magazine, luxury media brand, newspaper, digital publisher or similarly sophisticated editorial environment, with a strong track record of commissioning and editing outstanding journalism.
  • Someone who instinctively understands the world of Harper’s Bazaar - its heritage, audience, authority and place within fashion, culture and luxury - and can translate that understanding into intelligent, distinctive editorial ideas.
  • A highly organised and operationally minded editor who is comfortable owning complex workflows, multiple deadlines and competing priorities, with meticulous attention to detail and the confidence to make decisions.
  • An exceptional writer and editor with refined editorial judgement and an uncompromising eye for quality, language, accuracy, tone and presentation.
  • A natural leader with proven experience running and developing a team, who can provide clarity, direction and constructive challenge while creating an ambitious and collaborative environment.
  • A genuinely multiplatform editor who understands how premium editorial can work across print, digital and other brand touchpoints, with the confidence to collaborate across digital, audience, events, commercial and wider Hearst teams.
  • Someone who is highly curious, commercially aware and full of ideas, with the ability to spot opportunities for Bazaar and turn them into compelling editorial projects, experiences and initiatives.
  • A polished, credible and discreet communicator who can build strong relationships internally and externally and represent Harper’s Bazaar with authority across the fashion, luxury, cultural and creative industries.
