You only notice it when it fails. For decades, the people responsible for our roads, bridges and sidewalks have been asked to manage the physical world with tools that can't see it.\nCyvl is the Physical AI company changing that. We build purpose-built sensors, computer vision and AI that turn every drive into current data: what exists, where it is and what condition it's in. 500+ cities and towns use our Infrastructure Intelligence Platform to direct the work and fix problems before they fail. 1 in 30 Americans drive on roads managed with Cyvl data.\nThe proof isn't a dashboard. It's a smoother commute, a safer walk to school and public dollars going where they matter most. We're a fast-moving team in Boston building hardware, software and AI for the real world. If you believe technology's highest calling is public good, come build with us.\nTHE ROLE\nOur sensor mounts to the roof of a customer's vehicle and stays there through winters, potholes, and the occasional car wash. The people installing it are usually DPW crews, not engineers, and it still has to come back with clean data. As our Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll own the enclosure, chassis, thermal path, sealing, and mounting system, plus the drawings and documentation that let someone else build it correctly a thousand times. This is a hands-on design role with real ownership as we scale into production.\nWHAT YOU'LL DO\nTake the sensor from concept to production with our electrical, firmware, and perception engineers, including a mounting system a non-specialist can install on a wide range of vehicles without damaging them.\n\nProve the design survives real life: structural and thermal simulation, vibration and shock, ingress, and environmental testing.\n\nProduce the drawings, GD&T, models, and BOMs that let someone who has never met you build it correctly, and own the lifecycle process that keeps the released design and the built unit in agreement.\n\nLead the move from machined parts and in-house builds to tooling and contract manufacturing: DFM with molders and CMs, assembly documentation, fixtures, tolerance strategy, and FAI.\n\nTroubleshoot mechanical issues across design, build, and field, raise unit reliability, and hold the line on safety, quality, and cost as we scale.\n\nWHAT YOU BRING\nBS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with 3-7 years of experience, ideally in robotics, automation, automotive, or ruggedized electronics\n\nCradle-to-grave design experience with precision-machined and molded parts (SolidWorks preferred; OnShape, Creo, or similar is fine)\n\nExperience designing for CNC machining, molded plastics, and 3D printing, and comfort picking up sheet metal or weldments when a part calls for it\n\nParts taken to tooling and shipped, designed for the mold rather than just in plastic: draft, parting lines and gates, shrink and warp, ejection, and resin choice for years of sun and road grime\n\nDirect work with molders and tool shops through DFM review, tool kickoff, first shots, and tuning\n\nComfort building, testing, and iterating on functional prototypes by hand\n\nExperience with tolerance stackups, FAI review, and DFMEAs, and following designs through engineering builds, production builds, and the field\n\nRevision control, change orders, and deviations managed in a PLM system or a disciplined equivalent\n\nThermal management of electronics inside sealed enclosures, and sealing to a real IP rating\n\nStrong judgment on design, performance, and logistical tradeoffs, and clear technical documentation\n\nNICE TO HAVE\nEnclosures for a standard autonomy stack: cameras, GNSS, LiDAR, IMUs, and edge compute\n\nVehicle-mounted or automotive accessory hardware, including roof-rack, rail, and magnetic mounts\n\nOptical window design, sealing, and keeping glass clean in a road environment\n\nAn eye for beautiful, well-designed components, with finish, texture, parting lines, and fit that read as premium\n\nTaking hardware from low-volume in-house assembly to contract-manufactured production\n\nHardware deployed into government, public-sector, or other regulated environments\n\nA portfolio or photos of hardware you've designed; we'd rather see the parts than read about them\n\nWHY CYVL\nHard tech. Real streets. Your name on it.\nHard problems in the real world. You build end-to-end: our own hardware, software and AI, with work that shows up on the street in the real world.\n\nOwnership that compounds. You own outcomes, not tasks. You work directly with customers and across our team, and you'll own more, sooner, than almost anywhere else.\n\nIntense, with heart. We're building a category, so it's not a place to coast. We also take care of each other, have genuine fun together, and believe in what we are doing.\n\nWHAT WE ASK\nCross lanes. \"Not my job\" doesn't exist here.\n\nOwn without a playbook. The plan is still being written, often by you.\n\nTry, miss, try again. We make big bets. Some won't land, and we learn fast.\n\nBe in the room. We're on-site in Somerville about 90% of the time.\n\nWe're a startup building a category. If that sounds like the draw, not the risk, we'd love to talk.\nBENEFITS\nEquity. You'll own a piece of what you're building.\n\nHealth, dental, and vision. Cyvl covers most of the premium for you and your family.\n\n401k with a real match, vested day one. Your money is yours from the start.\n\nGenerous PTO & Paid Parental leave. Doing hard work well includes stepping away from it.\n\nLearning stipend. Spend it on whatever makes you sharper.\n\nPaid to live close. A monthly bonus for living near our Boston office.\n\nTeam events. Time together in Boston with a team you’ll love working with.\n\nOUR VALUES\nReal: Authentic and transparent. Focused on solving real problems with simple, effective solutions.\n\nAll Out: Bold, driven, and committed to delivering results that matter.\n\nAccelerating: Always learning, growing, and moving with intention.\n\nReliable: We follow through and deliver at a consistently high bar.\n\nEmpowering: We lift each other up and help governments build infrastructure they can be proud of.\n\nSEE OUR WORK\nHow Atlanta cut downtown potholes by 60%\n\nHow Buffalo turned a campaign promise into a paving plan\n\nHow to rebuild US infrastructure smarter\n\nWe build for every community, so we hire from all of them. The best people for this work come from different backgrounds, paths, and places, and many of them don't check every box. If this role excites you, apply anyway. If you need an adjustment to our interview process, tell us and we'll make it work.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6561,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["401k plan","Equity","Parental leave"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Geospatial Analytics","Smart City"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-12T10:41:39Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"green card filings: 1","filings_12m":0,"filings_prev_12m":1,"green_card_filings_12m":1,"median_offered_wage_usd":172500,"route":null,"cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-29T16:27:21+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)","US Department of Labor: PERM disclosure data (green cards)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":34,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.617,"p_room":0.55,"age_days":50,"expected_fill_days":36,"reasons":["conf:2","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-11-01T06:10:25Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":180000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/cyvl-senior-mechanical-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/cyvl-senior-mechanical-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-01T14:12:03Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":21848,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-02T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":674293},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=674293"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fcyvl-senior-mechanical-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fcyvl-senior-mechanical-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fcyvl-senior-mechanical-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/cyvl-senior-mechanical-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fcyvl-senior-mechanical-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":813106}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"cyvl.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":813106},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
