If you believe technology's highest calling is public good, come build with us.\nTHE ROLE\nAs a Software Engineer at Cyvl, you'll build the systems that turn raw sensor data from thousands of miles of roads into the platform cities use to plan their work. You'll own features end to end, from cloud pipelines and APIs to the web app our customers log into every day. We're hiring across levels, from engineers a few years in to senior engineers ready to set technical direction. This role is based in Somerville, MA, or remote from San Francisco, CA.\nWHAT YOU'LL DO\nDesign, build, and ship production systems across our stack: Python services, cloud data pipelines, APIs, and the Cyvl web platform.\n\nOwn features from idea to production, working directly with product, data operations, and customers to understand the problem first.\n\nBuild the APIs and integrations (Esri ArcGIS, Cartegraph, and more) that put Cyvl data inside the tools governments already use.\n\nMake our systems faster, cheaper, and more reliable as we scale to more cities, more miles, and more data.\n\nUse AI coding tools every day to move faster, and help shape how our team builds with them.\n\nWHAT YOU BRING\n3+ years of professional software engineering experience (for senior candidates, 5+ years and a track record of leading technical projects)\n\nStrong Python and experience building production backend systems\n\nExperience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD\n\nComfort owning ambiguous problems end to end and shipping iteratively\n\nClear communication with both technical and non-technical teammates\n\nNICE TO HAVE\nGeospatial data or tools (PostGIS, GDAL, ArcGIS, QGIS)\n\nInfrastructure as Code (Terraform), Go, or TypeScript/React\n\n3D graphics or point cloud work (Three.js, WebGL, LiDAR)\n\nLarge-scale ELT pipelines or data lakehouses\n\nEarly-stage startup experience or a history of building from zero to one\n\nWHY CYVL\nHard tech.
