Pear Tree is an offshore recruitment firm based in Australia that helps Australian and New Zealand businesses hire remote professionals, largely in the Philippines, who then work directly for the client instead of through an outsourcing agency. The firm charges a one-off placement fee with a six-month replacement guarantee and has a strong focus on mortgage broking and finance clients, for whom it recruits loan processors and broker assistants who work Australian business hours. Its openings, posted on behalf of client companies, include mortgage broker assistants, bookkeepers, executive assistants, paralegals, estimators, developers, designers and sales representatives.

Position : Full Stack Developer

Working Hours & Conditions : NZ Business Hours

Holidays : to follow

ABOUT THE COMPANY:

The company is a New Zealand-based SaaS company building online learning software for professional associations. Our platform helps associations deliver compliance training, professional development, and online courses to their members - across New Zealand, Australia, and an expanding US market.

We're a small, close-knit team of 13 people, all based in New Zealand.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

We're looking for a solid intermediate full-stack developer to join our development team. You'll work alongside experienced developers across our backend and frontend, building and shipping features across our .NET and Angular platform.

Codebase Context: Our platform is an established enterprise SaaS product with 12+ years of continuous growth. You'll be working across a real-world codebase-ranging from legacy AngularJS SPAs to our modern Angular monorepo and C# backend-with deep domain logic where understanding system context is as important as writing clean code. We are actively modernizing our architecture, so you'll play a direct role in shipping new features while helping us keep the platform clean and unified.

This is a delivery-focused role. You won't be expected to own architecture or infrastructure - you'll work on well-scoped tickets and be supported by experienced team members who will review your code and help you grow. What we need is someone who writes clean, reliable code, communicates clearly, and takes pride in shipping good work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

→ Course editor interactions

Your first major project - building the interaction layer of our course editor. Think drag-and-drop, rich content editing, and responsive UI components that make course creation feel effortless.

→ Platform features

Ongoing development across our LMS - new features, improvements to existing functionality, and integrations with third-party tools used by our association customers.

Bug fixes and polish

We care about quality. You'll pick up bugs and UX polish alongside feature work, keeping the platform stable and reliable for thousands of learners.

System health & performance

Actively participating in architecture modernization - optimizing LINQ/SQL database queries, refactoring legacy components, and improving maintainability so the codebase stays clean, efficient, and scalable.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must-have:

  • Backend: .NET / .NET Core (C#) - REST Web APIs & ASP.NET MVC
  • Frontend: Experience with a modern component-based framework (Angular, React, or similar)
  • Database: SQL Server / Azure SQL & Entity Framework Core (LINQ / IQueryable database queries)
  • Source control: Git / GitHub

Preferred:

  • MVC Views: ASP.NET MVC Razor views
  • Observability & Logging: OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Serilog, or Application Insights

Nice to Have:

◻ Frontend: Angular 17+ - including modern features (Signals, zoneless architecture)

◻ Azure: App Services, Service Bus, or Key Vault

◻ Frontend: AngularJS experience

◻ CI/CD: GitHub Actions or similar deployment pipeline experience

◻ Auth: OIDC / OAuth 2.0 flow awareness

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Solid delivery on well-scoped work
  • You can take a clearly defined ticket and ship it cleanly. You know when to ask questions and when to just get on with it.
  • Efficient data access & performance
  • You care about writing LINQ queries that generate efficient SQL and perform well under load and against high-volume tables. You understand the basics of database query execution-like sargability and index usage-or you're eager to learn how to write efficient data access code at scale.
  • Clean, maintainable code
  • You write code others can follow. You apply core design principles in daily work-specifically Separation of Concerns (SoC), the Principle of Least Astonishment (POLA), and SOLID (with a strong focus on SRP and ISP). You keep components, classes, and interfaces focused, predictable, and easy to test without hidden side effects
  • Full-stack comfort
  • You're not exclusively a backend or frontend person. You can move across the stack without grinding to a halt.
  • Clear communication
  • You work remotely. You flag blockers early, write good PR descriptions, and can explain a technical problem in plain English.
  • Appetite to grow
  • You're not the most senior person in the room, and you're fine with that. You want to learn from experienced developers and get better.
  • Enterprise SaaS Experience
  • Ideal candidate has experience working on large, complex, domain-heavy B2B SaaS platforms (e.g., LMS, ERP, Practice Management, Financial/Billing engines, Healthcare systems, or similar). You understand how to navigate deep business logic, complex database schemas, and multi-tenant architectures without breaking existing functionality.
  • AI-assisted development
  • Experienced with - or genuinely keen to learn - agentic AI tools (Claude Code CLI, Cursor, Copilot) across the full software lifecycle: feature scoping, legacy code comprehension, code generation, automated documentation, local code self-reviews, and test generation. Crucially, you must deeply understand all code generated by AI before committing it, maintaining strict personal accountability for its logic, performance, and security.

WHAT WE OFFER

NZ business hours - You work when your team works. No split shifts, no odd-hours calls.

Small team, real impact - You're not one of hundreds of developers. Your work ships and people notice it.

Hardware provided - Laptop sourced and set up for you before you start.

Growth pathway - We're growing into the US market. There's room to grow with us, including a potential second Philippines hire.

In-person connection - Our Head of Customer Success will be in Manila in November - you'll meet team members in person early on.
