In addition, the Design Engineer supports the development and sustainment of bill of materials, drawings, specifications and prototypes using engineering analysis and judgment. The Design Engineer ensures the product meets all internal and external safety and regulatory standards.\nPosition Responsibilities May include:\nCreate, revise, and sustain HVAC product designs, utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering principles. \nDevelop project scope based on product & project requirements. \nUnderstands New Product Development Process, Lean Product Development and Concurrent Engineering.\nOversees the development and execution of test plan and system testing including but not limited to psychometric, transit, airflow, component, and safety tests. \nDevelop and manage project schedules related to new and existing product designs. \nAnalyze product designs using engineering tools including but not limited to tolerance, thermodynamic, finite element, and computational fluid dynamic analyses. \nLeads development of system & component DFMEA. \nUnderstands AHRI/DOE/ASHRAE requirements.\nDocument product designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests. \nAssist in redesigning internal components to improve overall long-term system quality, improve efficiency & reduce cost. \nDevelop engineering solutions to product related issues through problem solving and root cause analysis techniques. \nParticipate on cross functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements. \nCoordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget. \nCommunicates potential technical, schedule, cost & safety risks in a timely fashion. \nWork with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues. \nAssist manufacturing with product launches and issue resolution. \nDrive continuous improvement projects related to product design and quality. \nMentors’ entry level engineers. \nPerform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs. \nNature & Scope:\nApplies advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. \nManages projects and processes while working independently and with limited supervision. \nCoaches and reviews the work of lower-level professionals. \nProblems faced are difficult and sometimes complex; takes a new perspective on existing solutions \nKnowledge & Skills:\nComprehensive understanding and knowledge of mechanical design theory and practice \nExperience with design for six sigma (DFSS), design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), design of experiments methodology, tolerance analysis, value engineering principles, and parts standardization principles (preferred) \nExperience with engineering change processes and CAD systems \nStrong Knowledge of thermodynamics and heat transfer principles \nStrong knowledge of product development process \nKnowledge of specifications and standards used in the HVAC industry (preferred) \nSoftware skills including MF Office - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project \nEffective analytical and problem-solving skills \nEffective communication skills - both verbal and written. \nEffective project management skills. \nStrong interpersonal & collaboration skills. \nAbility to apply good Judgement, has strong work ethic and maintains integrity on the job. \nAbility to establish positive working relationships with internal and external customers and employees. \nAbility to apply good judgement, strong work ethics and integrity on the job. \nExperience:\n6 years plus preferably in a high-volume HVAC manufacturing environment \nAt least 3 years of experience with product design in the automotive, appliance, or HVAC industry (preferred) \nEducation/Certification:\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field required \nPeople Management: No\nPhysical Requirements / Work Environment:\nMust be able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations. \nQualified Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States.
