As a strategic production yard within the Damen Shipyards Group, DSCS specializes in the design, construction, outfitting, commissioning, and delivery of high-quality tugboats and workboats for customers worldwide. The shipyard combines international shipbuilding expertise with local capabilities to deliver innovative, reliable, and sustainable vessels.\nThe Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) Department is responsible for monitoring and improving management systems related to occupational health and safety, environmental management, and quality assurance in accordance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements. The department plays a key role in promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement throughout the organization.\nThe Role\nAs a Safety Officer, you will support the effective implementation of the Company's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management system by ensuring compliance with legal requirements, company standards, and best practices.\nYou will conduct workplace inspections, monitor safety performance, support incident investigations, provide safety training, and cooperate with operational departments to continuously improve workplace safety and environmental performance. The role requires close interaction with employees, subcontractors, management teams, and external organizations to promote a proactive safety culture across the shipyard.\nKey Responsibilities\nAs a Safety Officer, your main responsibilities are:\nWorkplace Safety & Compliance\nConduct regular safety inspections and occupational health and safety audits across workshops and operational areas.\nIdentify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions, issue recommendations, and exercise stop-work authority when serious safety violations are identified.\nMonitor compliance with HSE procedures, legal requirements, and company safety standards.\nIssue and control Permit-to-Work (PTW) activities within assigned areas.\nMonitor and administer the R-Drive and Work Permit systems.\nSupport the implementation and communication of HSE policies, procedures, and workplace instructions.\nIncident Prevention & Investigation\nInvestigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.\nAnalyze root causes and propose corrective and preventive actions.\nFollow up on HSE findings to ensure timely closure and sustainable improvement.\nPrepare reports and communicate HSE performance to relevant stakeholders.\nEmergency Response & Fire Safety\nParticipate in emergency response activities, including fire-fighting, evacuation exercises, environmental incidents, flooding, and workplace accidents.\nInspect, monitor, and maintain fire-fighting equipment and emergency response readiness.\nSupport the development and execution of emergency drills and preparedness programs.\nTraining & Safety Awareness\nDeliver toolbox meetings and safety briefings.\nConduct HSE induction training and awareness programs for employees and subcontractors.\nPromote safety campaigns and initiatives to strengthen the safety culture within the organization.\nSupport the implementation of behavioral safety improvement programs.\nContractor & Audit Management\nMonitor subcontractor HSE performance and report safety issues.\nSupport internal and external HSE audits, inspections, and certification activities.\nCoordinate with external authorities, certification bodies, and inspection organizations when required.\nAssist departments in implementing improvement actions arising from inspections and audits.\nContinuous Improvement\nIdentify risks, improvement opportunities, and best practices related to workplace safety and environmental management.\nSupport HSE improvement projects and initiatives.\nConvert legal, regulatory, and management system requirements into practical guidance for operational departments.\nCollaborate with Production and other departments to improve safe working methods and ensure compliance with company procedures.\nSkills & Experience\nTo be successful in this role, you bring:\nEducation\nCollege Degree or higher in Occupational Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Industrial Management, or another relevant discipline.\nExperience\nMinimum 1-3 years of relevant experience in occupational health and safety within a manufacturing, industrial, shipbuilding, construction, or similar environment.\nExperience conducting safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and safety training activities is preferred.\nKnowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and relevant Vietnamese HSE regulations is an advantage.\nCompetencies\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to identify key risks and anticipate potential consequences.\nGood communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills.\nAbility to persuade and engage stakeholders to follow safety requirements and best practices.\nStrong observation skills and attention to detail.\nAbility to work independently while effectively cooperating with cross-functional teams.\nProactive mindset with a continuous improvement orientation.\nGood command of English is an advantage.\nWhat We Offer\nAt Damen, we understand that our success depends on finding the right people and supporting them throughout their career journey.
