As Lead Platform Engineer for our quality business line, you'll combine hands-on technical leadership with people management, ensuring your team delivers reliable, scalable and secure platform capabilities while embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle. This is a genuine player-manager role where you'll remain close to technology whilst developing engineers and helping shape the future of engineering excellence across the business.Responsibilities\nLead a platform engineering squad responsible for cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability and engineering quality practices.\n\nAct as the technical authority for the team, providing guidance on architecture, platform engineering standards, automation and operational excellence.\n\nRemain actively involved in complex technical work, supporting platform reliability, performance and scalability initiatives.\n\nOwn squad delivery commitments, proactively managing risks, dependencies and blockers to ensure successful outcomes.\n\nManage and develop engineers through coaching, performance feedback, development planning and regular one-to-one discussions.\n\nChampion AI-assisted engineering and testing practices, ensuring quality ownership remains embedded within the squad.\n\nDrive improvements in platform tooling, engineering productivity, automated testing and developer experience.\n\nContribute to broader engineering initiatives that improve standards, operational maturity and platform capability across Ideagen.\n\nSkills and Experience\nSignificant experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure or DevOps environments.\n\nStrong technical expertise in Kubernetes, AWS, CI/CD tooling, infrastructure automation and observability platforms.\n\nExperience leading engineers within agile software delivery organisations.\n\nProven ability to balance hands-on technical contribution with leadership and people management responsibilities.\n\nStrong understanding of engineering quality, automated testing and modern software delivery practices.\n\nExperience implementing and supporting AI-assisted development or testing approaches.\n\nExcellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.\n\nPassion for building high-performing teams, scalable platforms and engineering cultures focused on quality and continuous improvement.\n\nAs a business, we place great value on collaboration, knowledge sharing and building strong relationships across our teams. Therefore, for candidates living within a 35-mile radius of Nottingham, this role will follow a hybrid working pattern, with three days per week based in our Ruddington office.
