Director, Digital Consulting Services

The Director, Digital Consulting Services provides strategic and operational leadership for digital consulting functions that assess, prioritize, and advance technology solutions in support of Dana-Farber’s clinical, research, administrative, and operational goals. This role leads teams responsible for collaboration and productivity platforms as well as digital innovation initiatives, translating organizational needs into secure, scalable, and value-driven solutions. The Director partners across Information Services and Institute leadership to establish roadmaps, govern service delivery, and oversee a portfolio of medium- to high-complexity initiatives. This position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to balance innovation, user experience, operational efficiency, and compliance in a complex healthcare environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Develops and executes the strategy, operating model, and multi-year roadmap for Digital Consulting Services, ensuring alignment with Dana-Farber priorities, Information Services goals, and evolving organizational needs. Establishes objectives, deliverables, timelines, and success measures for the function.
• Leads multiple teams responsible for collaboration and productivity platforms and digital innovation services, overseeing the evaluation, selection, implementation, optimization, and lifecycle management of digital solutions that improve communication, efficiency, workflow performance, and user experience.
• Partners with clinical, research, administrative, and operational leaders to understand business challenges, identify opportunities, and translate needs into actionable initiatives, service offerings, and technology recommendations. Oversees intake, prioritization, and demand management processes to focus resources on the highest-value work.
• Directs cross-functional programs and medium- to high-complexity initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, technologies, and dependencies. Ensures effective use of project, product, and service management methodologies; monitors scope, schedule, risks, issues, and outcomes; and communicates progress through reporting and executive updates.
• Establishes governance and operational standards for supported platforms and services, including administration, service levels, evergreen planning, adoption strategies, user support coordination, training alignment, usage analytics, and continuous improvement. Evaluates performance and identifies opportunities to optimize value, standardization, and sustainability.
• Ensures solutions and recommendations align with Institute requirements for cybersecurity, data protection, infrastructure, compliance, and technology policy. Collaborates closely with peer Information Services teams and enterprise partners to avoid duplication, address integration needs, and maintain a secure and supportable digital ecosystem.
• Oversees vendor and external partner relationships related to digital tools, consulting services, and innovation initiatives, including product evaluation, service oversight, contract support, and budget stewardship for one or more cost centers. Maintains awareness of industry trends and emerging technologies to inform strategic planning and responsible innovation.
• Supervises staff. Hires, develops, and manages staff to achieve organizational goals. Sets clear expectations, delivers feedback, and monitors performance for quality, efficiency, and compliance with policies and procedures. Mentors staff, fosters career growth, and cultivates a positive and productive work environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of digital strategy, healthcare technology, collaboration and productivity platforms, digital workflow solutions, and innovation practices within complex healthcare or academic environments.
• Solid understanding of information services operations and the interdependencies among applications, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data governance, compliance, and user support functions.
• Demonstrated ability to assess business needs, develop strategic roadmaps, and translate organizational priorities into practical, scalable, and measurable technology solutions.
• Strong program and project management skills, including scope definition, prioritization, resource planning, timeline development, risk mitigation, and oversight of multiple concurrent initiatives.
• Ability to lead effectively in a matrixed environment and influence stakeholders across departments, functions, and leadership levels without sole direct authority.
• Excellent consultation, facilitation, relationship-building, and customer service skills, with the ability to establish trust and credibility with clinical, research, administrative, operational, and executive stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical and operational information clearly to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to use metrics, dashboards, and analytics to monitor performance, assess adoption, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate outcomes and business value.
• Strong financial and operational acumen, including experience managing budgets, overseeing vendor relationships, supporting governance processes, and balancing innovation with cost stewardship and operational sustainability.
• Sound judgment, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage ambiguity, maintain confidentiality, support change management, and stay current with emerging technologies and their practical application in healthcare.

Minimum Job Qualifications

Education Required

• Bachelor's Degree

Area of Study Required

• Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Informatics, or a related field.

Experience Required

• 8 years of progressively responsible experience in information services, digital consulting, digital strategy, healthcare technology, product management, project/program management, or a related field required.
• 5 years of management experience leading professional staff, cross-functional initiatives, and complex portfolios required.
• Experience translating clinical, operational, research, or business needs into technology-enabled solutions required.

Experience Preferred

• Experience leading digital transformation, collaboration platform strategy, workflow optimization, or digital innovation initiatives in a large healthcare system, academic medical center, or similarly complex environment preferred.
• Experience with budget management, vendor management, and governance processes preferred.

License/Certification/Registration Preferred

• Project management, agile, product management, IT service management, or other relevant technology certifications preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Staff supervised: Application analysts including principal, senior, and II (7+), platform architect (1), project managers (1+), executive assistant supporting multiple VPs and AVPs (1).
