Serving two primary markets - passenger vehicle and commercial truck equipment - Dana provides the world's original-equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket with local product and service support through a network of nearly 100 engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities.\nJob Purpose\nThe Product Engineer is responsible for providing axle product leadership to the global engineering team. The main responsibilities of this position are to lead research and design activities on new products, quality issues, VAVE, and existing product enhancement opportunities. Primary duties include the following:\nJob Duties and Responsibilities\nInterpret customer technical specifications and use them to correctly design axle components, specifically carriers, to meet Dana design practices, customer packaging interfaces, and Dana/customer performance requirements.\nWork closely with manufacturing engineering, purchasing, and estimating team to ensure product designs are both cost effective and manufacturable while meeting all requirements.\nProvide technical support to customers, sales, purchasing, manufacturing plants, assembly plants, and other engineering departments during sourcing, vehicle development, launch, and production.\nMake key decisions on proposals, priorities, and requirements following Dana’s Design Review process.\nAuthor and/or review DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, engineering work orders, materials, prototype samples, and test lab service requests, and then evaluate prototype samples and test lab set-ups and results.\nAuthor and/or review technical reports, presentations, and axle product drawings.\nEvaluate the merits of change and deviation requests applying acceptable engineering practices and coordinate the implementation of such changes once approved by the customer.\nSupport Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities and supplier PPAP submissions.\nMentor and train less experienced axle engineers and technicians.\nReview monthly customer vehicle warranty data and manage necessary actions for improvement.\nPerform benchmarking and competitive axle analyses. Develop and implement VAVE cost savings projects.\nEducation and Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in mechanical engineering or related technical field. \n3+ years of experience in drivetrain engineering in the automotive, commercial vehicle, and/or off-highway industries. \nCasting, forging, forming, fabricating, stamping, and/or machining experience is preferred. \nBearing, fastener, seal, and/or shaft experience is also preferred.\nProficiency in technical drawings, GD&T, authoring FEA requests, and interpreting FEA results.
