As a Field Engineer - Layout & Surveying at Danis, you’ll be embedded with the project team and play a critical role in how our buildings come together-from early site control through final execution.\nThis role sits at the intersection of field operations, layout technology, and project coordination. You’ll lead layout and scanning efforts across structural, architectural, and major building systems, identify design conflicts early, and help drive RFIs that keep projects moving and rework low.\nYou’ll work side-by-side with Superintendents, Project Engineers, and VDC-blending hands-on field work with technical problem-solving. If you enjoy variety, ownership, and seeing the direct impact of your work in the field, this is a role where you can truly make your mark.\nResponsibilities\nWhat You’ll Do:\nField Layout & Project Execution\nLead layout for site control, elevations, building grids, deep foundations, footings, walls, columns, decks, embeds, sleeves, boxouts, floor elevations, and anchor bolts across civil and structural scopes.\nPerform topographic surveys, 3D scanning, QA/QC checks, and other critical measurements to support construction accuracy.\nEstablish and manage project control, ensuring layout is accurate, timely, and coordinated with site schedules.\nProvide subcontractors with verified control points in accordance with contract requirements.\nTechnology, Data & Coordination\nMaintain accurate and up-to-date data files, spreadsheets, as-builts, layout logs, and drawing revisions to support informed field decisions.\nCollaborate closely with VDC and survey teams on startup control, scanning, and cross-project initiatives.\nReview drawings, bulletins, and RFIs to ensure layout reflects the latest construction documents and intent.\nIdentify constructability issues early and support the RFI process to drive resolution before work is impacted.\nTeam Leadership & Collaboration\nTrain and support Project Engineers, co-ops, foremen, and superintendents in layout processes and the effective use of robotic total stations and emerging technology.\nOversee daily layout activities and coordinate closely with field leadership to align priorities with evolving site needs.\nSupport survey operations on additional Danis projects as needed based on workload and company priorities.\nEquipment & Quality\nPerform routine equipment checks and maintenance, including pegging auto levels and coordinating servicing schedules.\nPromote consistency, precision, and quality across all layout and surveying activities.\nQualifications\nWhat You Bring\nWorking knowledge of builder’s levels, total stations, 3D scanners, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Point Layout.\nExperience with robotic total stations (RTS); familiarity with Trimble or equivalent systems required.\nAbility to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and stay current with revisions.\nStrong understanding of construction operations, sequencing, and how layout impacts project success.\nClear communicator who collaborates well across field and office teams.\nOrganized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple requests in a fast-paced jobsite environment.\nEducation & Experience\nBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field or NSPS/CST certification.\n3-5 years of experience in building construction and site layout/surveying (GC or large-scale project experience preferred).\nProven experience managing day-to-day layout activities on active construction sites.\nWorking Conditions\nThis role includes a mix of field and office responsibilities, with a significant presence on active construction sites.\nLocal travel required; extended hours may be needed based on project demands.\nAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.\nPhysical requirements include standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders or scaffolding, and lifting up to 50 pounds.\nWhy You’ll Love Working Here\nYour work directly impacts how our buildings are constructed-from the ground up.\nYou’ll collaborate with experienced, down-to-earth teams who care about doing things right.\nYou’ll use modern layout technology and continue to grow your technical and leadership skills.\nYou’ll be trusted with real responsibility and seen as a key contributor on the project team.\nWhy Choose Danis\nCompetitive total compensation\nAnnual merit increases and performance bonuses\nProfit sharing\nComprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance\nShort- and long-term disability and life insurance\n401(k) with retirement planning support\nCertification reimbursement and continuing education\nDanis University with 45+ training programs\nClear career progression paths\nGenerous PTO and vacation policies\nFlexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA)\n“Constructing Hope” community outreach program\nEEO Statement\nDanis is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
