Overview\nI’m working with an established marine engineering and service company looking to add an experienced Marine Propulsion Field Engineer to its Fort Lauderdale team.\nThis is a highly hands-on field service position focused on the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, installation, and commissioning of marine propulsion equipment onboard commercial vessels.\nThe ideal candidate will have strong mechanical experience with propulsion equipment such as shaft lines, stern tubes, thrusters, azimuth propulsion units, CPP/FPP systems, bearings, seals, couplings, and shaft alignment.\nResponsibilities\nInspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair marine propulsion systems onboard commercial vessels.\n\nService and overhaul shaft lines, stern tube arrangements, bearings, seals, couplings, and associated equipment.\n\nDiagnose and repair tunnel thrusters, azimuth thrusters, CPP systems, and other propulsion equipment.\n\nPerform mechanical installations, commissioning, and sea trials.\n\nConduct shaft alignment using laser alignment systems and precision measurement equipment.\n\nInterpret mechanical drawings, OEM manuals, and technical documentation.\n\nDiagnose complex mechanical faults and recommend appropriate corrective actions.\n\nPrepare detailed field service reports following maintenance and repair activities.\n\nWork directly with vessel crews, shipyards, project managers, and technical teams.\n\nSupport both planned maintenance projects and emergency vessel breakdowns.\n\nMaintain company and customer safety standards throughout field activities.\n\nRequired Experience\nPrevious hands-on experience servicing marine propulsion systems.\n\nStrong knowledge of several of the following:\nShaft lines and shaft alignment\n\nStern tubes\n\nAzimuth propulsion units\n\nTunnel thrusters\n\nControllable Pitch Propellers (CPP)\n\nFixed Pitch Propellers (FPP)\n\nBearings and seals\n\nCouplings\n\nStrong mechanical troubleshooting and fault-finding capabilities.\n\nPrevious experience working onboard commercial vessels and/or within shipyards.\n\nAbility to read mechanical drawings and technical documentation.\n\nComfortable working independently in field service environments.\n\nValid driver’s license and passport, or ability to obtain one.\n\nPreferred Experience\nMarine Engineering qualification, Mechanical Engineering background, or equivalent hands-on technical experience.\n\nExperience with propulsion manufacturers such as Wärtsilä, Kongsberg, Schottel, Rolls-Royce/MTU, Brunvoll, Berg Propulsion, MAN Energy Solutions, or similar OEMs.\n\nExperience performing laser shaft alignment and vibration analysis.\n\nExposure to dry dock repair, overhaul, installation, and vessel commissioning projects.\n\nFamiliarity with classification societies such as ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK.\n\nTravel\nApproximately 50% travel throughout the year.\n\nCombination of domestic and international assignments at ports, shipyards, and customer facilities.\n\nCandidates should be comfortable responding to both scheduled projects and urgent vessel breakdowns.\n\nWhat’s
