The Engineer will rely on extensive experience and judgment to accomplish goals and perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the job. In this role, the AI Engineer IV will provide technical direction across all Engineering teams - helping embed AI-enabled development approaches.\nThe Engineer owns engineering problems end-to-end, applying creativity and technical expertise to solve them in novel ways. Operating with an AI-first mindset, they influence the evolution of our engineering practices, redefining how work gets done, not just what we build.\nEssential Functions and Responsibilities\nReview, modify, develop, write and implement software applications, usually very complex in nature, with an AI-augmented approach.\n\nGuide teams in building and refining world-class middleware and platform solutions.\n\nProvide technical direction for the company and come up with novel ways to solve engineering problems using AI.\n\nChampion an AI-first engineering culture across the team - introducing AI assigned code delivery, monitoring and proactive bug findings.\n\nIdentify opportunities to embed AI automation in the software lifecycle.\n\nServe as the organization’s authority on emerging AI development practices and champion AI adoption across engineering teams.\n\nBuild relationships with stakeholders of the teams to understand business context and requirements for the solutions that the project team is working on to deliver.\n\nRequirements\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\n7+ years of proven hand-on software engineering experience with professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations\n\nExpert level knowledge of AI IDEs with preference for Claude Code, Cursor, and/or Kiro\n\nProven ability to design and operate with an AI-first mindset including prompt engineering, context management and agentic coding pipelines\n\nFamiliarity with retrieval-augmented generations (RAG) techniques and strategies\n\nDeep understanding of how to integrate AI tooling across the full SDLC - code regeneration, automated testing, documentation, code review and release process\n\nAbility to evaluate emerging AI development tools and make data backed solutions to engineering leadership\n\nKnowledge of computing and technical environments, such as operating systems, communication protocols, software applications, hardware platforms, etc.\n\nEngineers must be available in a scheduled rotation for after-hours support of escalations of Instrument Manager and/or other DI products for critical issues with customers\n\nMust comply with and pass initial background check and drug screening, as well as subsequent background checks, drug screenings and vaccine requirements as required by customer contracts\n\nAbility to follow DI’s policies and procedures and system usage practices\n\nMust have unrestricted work authorization in the United States\n\nPreferred Skills and Experience\nIn addition to the above requirements, the ideal employee/candidate could additionally have experience with the following:\n3+ years experience working as a technical lead guiding teams through technical decisions\n\nExperience with fine-tuning models\n\nExperience building or governing AI agent pipeline, Agent factories, AI agent pipelines\n\nExperience with cloud-native architecture and multi-tenant systems\n\nFamiliarity with AI governances and responsible AI practices\n\nKnowledge of the integration of laboratory information systems, analytical instrumentation, and automation systems\n\nEducation and/or Experience\nBachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and a minimum of 7 years relevant working experience OR at least 10 years working in a position as a software developer or similar position\nPhysical Requirements/Working Conditions\nWhile performing duties of this job, the employee is predominately functioning in a sedentary light office position with high frequency of telephone communication, keyboarding, and computer. Travel up to 10% may be required.\nSupervision Level\nThis person reports directly to a Software Engineering Manager.\nCompensation & Benefits\nSalary Range: $158,600 - 200,400.
