As we continue to grow, we’re looking for people who want to bring their experience, ideas, and perspective to meaningful projects and help shape what comes next at DataOne.\nAbout the Job\nDataOne is hiring a Lead Building Automation Controls Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls at our Vineland data center.\nIn this role, you'll serve as a primary on-site technical resource, leading complex troubleshooting, coordinating controls-related maintenance, and supporting commissioning and system improvements. You'll also provide technical guidance to junior controls engineers and technicians while working closely with Engineering, Facilities, IT, and external contractors to keep critical systems operating reliably.\nWhat You'll Do\nLead daily monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls.\nDiagnose and resolve complex system alarms, equipment failures, control issues, and operational concerns involving mechanical and electrical systems.\nTroubleshoot sensors, actuators, controllers, networked devices, and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, including control sequences and programming adjustments.\nPerform and coordinate system inspections, functional testing, control point verification, calibration checks, and performance assessments.\nProvide on-site technical leadership, prioritize controls-related work, and guide junior controls engineers and technicians.\nCoordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with Facilities, Engineering, vendors, and service providers.\nLead controls-related field activities for equipment upgrades, commissioning, system integrations, and operational improvement projects.\nReview system trends, alarms, and performance data to identify recurring issues and recommend corrective actions.\nMaintain accurate technical documentation, including troubleshooting records, control drawings, sequences of operation, and maintenance reports.\nCollaborate with Engineering, Facilities, IT, contractors, and management to resolve technical issues and support system reliability.\nRequirements\nWhat You'll Need\nHigh school diploma or GED.\nMinimum 5 years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, controls engineering, facility operations, or a related technical field.\nStrong working knowledge of HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, and building automation operations.\nHands-on experience with Direct Digital Controls (DDC), building automation software, control sequences, and system troubleshooting.\nStrong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with sensors, actuators, controllers, and associated control devices.\nAbility to read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and mechanical/electrical plans.\nExperience performing functional testing, control point verification, system inspections, and performance assessments.\nAbility to independently troubleshoot complex technical issues, coordinate corrective actions, and provide technical guidance to other team members.\nWe recognize that experience and skills can come from different paths. Relevant professional, hands-on, educational, military, trade, and industry experience may all provide the skills and knowledge needed to succeed at DataOne.\nPreferred Qualifications\nAssociate degree, technical diploma, apprenticeship, or vocational training in Building Automation, HVAC, Electrical Technology, or a related field.\nExperience with BAS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Trane, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Automated Logic, Distech, or Niagara Framework.\nAdvanced knowledge of HVAC systems, including AHUs, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, and CRAC/computer room cooling equipment.\nFamiliarity with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and IP networking fundamentals.\nExperience with commissioning, controls integration, or technical leadership in data centers, critical facilities, or similar high-availability environments.\nWhat to Expect\nFull-time, on-site position in Vineland, New Jersey, with required shift coverage.\nHands-on work throughout the facility, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and equipment spaces.\nOccasional after-hours support for emergencies, maintenance activities, and special projects.\nCollaboration with engineering, operations, IT, contractors, and vendors in a 24/7 mission-critical environment.\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and climb stairs or ladders while accessing equipment and facility areas. The position may require handling tools, testing equipment, and control components, with assistance when necessary. Work may involve varying temperatures, elevated noise levels, and operating mechanical and electrical equipment.
