We need an engineer who understands systems end-to-end - including applications, APIs, databases, messaging, distributed services, observability and production operations.\nWhat You'll Be Doing\nDesign, develop and maintain scalable, resilient distributed applications\n\nWork across backend and frontend development\n\nDevelop and integrate REST APIs and microservices\n\nWork with event-driven architectures and messaging platforms\n\nDesign and optimise databases, queries and application logic\n\nTroubleshoot complex production issues and perform root-cause analysis\n\nImplement effective monitoring, logging, alerting and observability\n\nBuild and optimise systems handling high transaction volumes\n\nContribute to architectural and technical design decisions\n\nDevelop clean, maintainable and reusable code\n\nImplement automated testing and CI/CD practices\n\nWork with cloud and containerised environments\n\nParticipate in code reviews and engineering standards\n\nMentor developers and help raise the team's technical capability\n\nTechnical Experience\nWe are looking for strong experience in:\n6 - 10 years' commercial software development\n\nFull-stack software development\n\nJava / JVM technologies - highly preferred\n\nSpring Boot or equivalent backend frameworks\n\nDistributed systems and microservice architecture\n\nREST APIs and system integration\n\nEvent-driven architecture and messaging\n\nKafka - highly advantageous\n\nStrong SQL and relational database knowledge, including query optimisation\n\nProduction troubleshooting and debugging\n\nObservability, monitoring, logging and alerting\n\nAWS and/or Azure\n\nDocker and Kubernetes\n\nCI/CD and automated testing\n\nSoftware design principles, design patterns and clean architecture\n\nExperience with other JVM technologies such as Scala will also be considered.\nStrong .NET engineers will be considered where they can demonstrate genuine experience with distributed systems, messaging, cloud, APIs, databases and large-scale production environments.\nWhat We're Looking For\nThe right person will:\nThink beyond individual applications and understand systems end-to-end\n\nUnderstand how applications, APIs, messaging, databases and infrastructure interact\n\nHave experience working on real production systems at scale\n\nBe able to diagnose complex technical problems independently\n\nUnderstand scalability, resilience, failure handling and performance\n\nBe comfortable going deep into the technical detail\n\nBe able to explain why a technical solution works, not just which technology was used\n\nTake ownership of system reliability and production performance\n\nBe comfortable mentoring and supporting other engineers\n\nCommunicate technical concepts clearly with both technical and business stakeholders\n\nBanking / Payments Experience\nExperience in banking, payments, fintech or other high-volume financial environments is highly advantageous.\nHowever, financial-services experience is not mandatory.\nWe will consider engineers from other environments where they have worked on
