At Decima, you will be able to explore incredible growth and professional development opportunities.\nWe are seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to lead the technical commissioning of mechanical systems on data center projects, from design review through Integrated Systems Testing. In this independent, owner-engaged role, you will develop test procedures, direct the field team, assess results against design intent, and report findings to the owner.\nThe ideal candidate will combine strong data center commissioning expertise with the ability to lead field testing, resolve technical issues, mentor technicians, and communicate findings objectively to owners, designers, contractors, and operators.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nReview mechanical designs, specifications, and submittals against the owner’s project requirements, and identify commissioning concerns before equipment procurement.\nDevelop commissioning plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for chilled water plants, heat rejection equipment, air handling systems, liquid cooling systems, and related equipment.\nWitness factory acceptance tests and lead site inspections, pre-functional checks, and Level 4 functional performance testing.\nPlan and lead the mechanical scope of Integrated Systems Testing, including cooling failure scenarios, restart sequences, and thermal ride-through under load.\nReview sequences of operation and controls integration with the controls engineer.\nAnalyze test data, resolve technical disputes, and determine whether results meet design requirements and acceptance criteria.\nTrack deficiencies through closure, report commissioning progress to the owner and project leadership, and prepare test reports.\nLead and mentor commissioning technicians and coordinate activities with contractors, designers, and operators.\nFollow site safety procedures and applicable testing and permit requirements.\nMaintain accurate and independent reporting in accordance with Decima’s conflict-of-interest and independence policy, without influence from contractors or equipment suppliers.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nRequired Qualifications:\n7 to 10 years of commissioning experience on mechanical systems.\nAt least 5 years of experience on data center projects, including participation in at least one Integrated Systems Test.\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.\nStrong knowledge of chilled water, heat rejection, air handling, pumping systems, and data center cooling design.\nAbility to develop test scripts and procedures and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and sequences of operation.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to report technical findings clearly and objectively when they challenge project expectations.\nAuthorization to work in the United States and ability to pass a background check and drug screen.\nAbility to travel 50-75%, work extended site assignments, lift 50 lbs, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with liquid cooling and high-density AI deployments, including coolant distribution units (CDUs), facility water loops, and fluid quality.\nProfessional certification or license, such as PE, CxA, or CPMP.\nFamiliarity with ASHRAE Guidelines 0 and 1.1 and Uptime Institute practices.\nExperience supporting multiple owner programs or international projects.\nPOSITION DETAILS:\nPrimary Location (On-site): Project sites across the United States.\nPosition: Mechanical Commissioning Engineer.\nTravel: 50-75%, including extended assignments of three weeks or more.
