These roles support interoperability across the assigned application portfolio and help ensure that mission systems exchange information securely, accurately, and reliably.\nThe API/Integration Engineers maintain interface specifications, data mappings, and contract tests; support application and data migration; diagnose integration failures; and coordinate technical solutions across development, architecture, data, testing, cybersecurity, cloud, and Government stakeholder teams.\nThese positions are remote, with Chicago-area candidates preferred.\nNote: By applying to this position, you acknowledge and consent to having your resume included in an active competitive government contract bid. \nDuties & Responsibilities\nThe API/Integration Engineers will:\nDesign, develop, test, document, deploy, and maintain reusable APIs, integration services, interface adapters, and data exchanges. \nTranslate approved requirements, interface needs, business rules, and system constraints into secure integration solutions. \nDevelop interfaces that support reliable data exchange across applications, services, databases, cloud environments, and external systems. \nDevelop reusable integration components, shared services, transformation logic, and error-handling patterns. \nPrepare and maintain interface specifications, interface control information, API documentation, data mappings, schemas, and transformation rules. \nDefine and document request and response structures, validation rules, error responses, dependencies, authentication requirements, and performance expectations. \nDevelop and maintain unit tests, integration tests, contract tests, regression tests, and representative test data. \nVerify interface behavior against approved specifications, schemas, mappings, and service contracts. \nCoordinate with consuming and providing systems to validate interoperability and resolve interface discrepancies. \nApply secure coding practices to APIs, adapters, integration services, and data-processing components. \nImplement approved authentication, authorization, encryption, certificate, logging, and data-protection controls. \nSupport application, interface, platform, and data migration activities. \nAnalyze legacy interfaces and develop migration, replacement, coexistence, or transition approaches. \nSupport integration planning, cutover preparation, migration validation, and post-transition verification. \nMonitor, investigate, and troubleshoot interface failures, data mismatches, timeouts, authentication errors, schema violations, and processing exceptions. \nPerform root-cause analysis and implement durable corrective actions for recurring integration problems. \nDevelop appropriate retry, reconciliation, exception-management, alerting, and recovery capabilities. \nCoordinate integration troubleshooting with application, database, network, cloud, cybersecurity, and external-system teams. \nParticipate in peer reviews, code reviews, design reviews, interface reviews, and architecture discussions. \nUse approved version-control practices, including branching, commits, pull requests, merges, and release tagging. \nSupport continuous integration, automated testing, deployment pipelines, and release-management activities. \nMaintain accurate technical documentation, configuration information, deployment instructions, known limitations, and troubleshooting procedures. \nParticipate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily coordination, demonstrations, reviews, retrospectives, and release-readiness activities. \nProvide implementation estimates and identify interface dependencies, technical risks, assumptions, constraints, and external decisions. \nSupport Government demonstrations, user acceptance testing, operational validation, and stakeholder feedback. \nProtect sensitive data and comply with applicable federal, DoD, security, privacy, records-management, and configuration-management requirements. \nContribute to continuous improvement of API governance, interoperability, testing, documentation, monitoring, and integration practices.\nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications\nCandidates must possess all the following:\nAn active Secret clearance or higher. \nA bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent permitted by the applicable labor category. \nAt least six years of relevant professional experience. \nExperience developing, testing, and maintaining software applications. \nExperience designing, developing, integrating, or consuming APIs. \nExperience developing and maintaining unit tests. \nExperience applying secure coding principles. \nExperience using version-control systems and structured source-code management practices. \nExperience developing or maintaining interfaces, adapters, integration services, or data exchanges. \nAbility to prepare and maintain interface specifications, API documentation, data mappings, schemas, or transformation rules. \nAbility to develop or maintain contract tests and validate interoperability between systems. \nAbility to diagnose and resolve integration failures, data-mapping issues, interface errors, and system dependencies. \nA relevant software-development or cloud certification from a recognized provider. \nAbility to collaborate effectively with developers, architects, data specialists, testers, cybersecurity personnel, platform engineers, external-system teams, and Government stakeholders. \nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, technical documentation, and communication skills. \nPreferred Qualifications\nThe following qualifications are preferred:\nExperience supporting federal or Department of Defense software-development, systems-integration, or modernization programs. \nExperience integrating mission-critical, regulated, security-sensitive, or high-availability systems. \nExperience developing RESTful APIs, web services, asynchronous integrations, event-driven services, or message-based integrations. \nExperience with OpenAPI specifications, JSON Schema, XML Schema, or comparable interface-definition standards. \nExperience with API gateways, service meshes, enterprise service buses, integration platforms, or
