This role sits at the intersection of application development and database engineering, ensuring that data models, queries, indexes, and deployment patterns are efficient, scalable, and aligned with business requirements. The Application DBA partners closely with developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-performance, secure, and resilient MongoDB environments.\n\nHow You’ll make an impact: \n\nDatabase Design & Development:\n\nCollaborate with application architects to design optimal MongoDB data models (schema design, document structure, embedding vs. referencing).\n\nReview and optimize queries, aggregations, and indexing strategies.\n\nImplement schema versioning, data migrations, and refactoring strategies.\n\nHelps developers with MongoDB best practices, patterns, and anti-patterns.\n\nPerformance & Optimization:\n\nMonitor and tune query performance, index usage, and execution plans.\n\nAnalyze slow queries using Profiler, Explain Plans, and performance metrics.\n\nOptimize sharding strategies, partitioning, and data distribution.\n\nConduct capacity planning and workload forecasting.\n\nOperations & Administration:\n\nManage MongoDB clusters (standalone, replica sets, sharded clusters) in on-prem or Atlas environments.\n\nPerform backup/restore, disaster recovery planning, and failover testing.\n\nEnsure high availability, replication health, and cluster stability.\n\nImplement and maintain monitoring (Atlas, Ops Manager, Prometheus, PagerDuty, Grafana, ELK, PMM etc.).\n\nSecurity & Compliance:\n\nConfigure and enforce authentication, authorization, and role-based access control.\n\nImplement encryption at rest and in transit, auditing, and compliance controls.\n\nEnable secure deployment patterns and vulnerability remediation.\n\nTroubleshooting & Support:\n\nDiagnose and resolve issues related to:\n\nReplication lag\n\nLocking and contention\n\nMemory/CPU bottlenecks\n\nStorage performance\n\nWho you are: \n\nTechnical Skills\n\n5+ years of database administration, database engineering, or data platform experience.\n\nStrong expertise in MongoDB (3 years) including replica sets and sharded clusters.\n\nDeep knowledge of MongoDB query engine, indexing, and aggregation framework.\n\nProficiency with MongoDB Atlas, Ops Manager, or Cloud Manager.\n\nExperience with Linux, shell scripting, and system-level performance tuning.\n\nFamiliarity with programming languages commonly used with MongoDB (Node.js, Python, Java).\n\nKnowledge of networking, storage, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).\n\nExperience supporting high-volume, business-critical production systems.\n\nSoft Skills\n\nStrong communication and collaboration with developers and cross-functional teams.\n\nAnalytical mindset with a focus on performance and reliability.\n\nAbility to work in fast-paced, distributed environments.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nMongoDB Certified DBA or Developer.\n\nExperience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ).\n\nBackground in SQL databases and migration from relational to NoSQL.\n\nExperience in monitoring 24/7 highly available production environments.\n\nExperience in gaming, betting, fintech, payments, e-commerce, or other transaction-intensive industries.\n\nSuccess Measures\n\nSuccess in this role will be measured by:\n\nImproved database and application performance.\n\nReduced query latency and resource consumption.\n\nIncreased scalability and reliability of MongoDB workloads.\n\nReduction in database-related production incidents.\n\nImproved operational readiness and recovery capabilities.\n\nAdoption of database best practices across engineering teams.\n\nSuccessful delivery of performance optimization and capacity planning initiatives.\n\nWhat We Offer: \n\nWe’re not just about work, we are about creating a great place to grow, connect, and enjoy the journey.
