This is a hybrid role. In this role, you’ll help us build and operate the event streaming infrastructure that powers business-critical workflows across Deliveroo, DoorDash and Wolt.\nGet to know our Engineering team, what drives us, how we work, and what you can expect.\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\nYou’ll be joining the Event Streaming Systems team within the broader Storage organisation. The team builds and operates highly reliable, scalable and efficient event streaming infrastructure, including Kafka, Event Streaming abstractions(internally called EventBus) and future streaming platform technologies. These systems support Tier-0 workflows and are foundational to how engineering teams build reliable, event-driven products at scale.\nHere’s what your day-to-day might look like:\nDesign, build and operate large-scale event streaming infrastructure that supports critical production workloads.\n\nImprove the reliability, scalability, observability and automation of Kafka, EventBus and related streaming platforms.\n\nDebug complex distributed systems issues, including performance bottlenecks, capacity constraints and production reliability challenges.\n\nBuild infrastructure automation and self-healing capabilities that reduce operational toil and improve platform resilience.\n\nContribute to incident response, operational readiness and continuous improvement for Tier-0 infrastructure.\n\nPartner closely with EventBus, Storage, SRE, Data Platform and Core Infrastructure teams across US and EU regions.\n\nHelp shape the long-term architecture and evolution of Deliveroo’s event streaming platform.\n\nWhat You’ll Need to Thrive\nOur ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others:\nStrong hands-on experience building or operating distributed systems in production.\n\nExperience with Kafka or similar event streaming systems, either as a platform, infrastructure service or critical production dependency.\n\nStrong coding ability in Java, Go, Python or similar languages, with a focus on reliable, maintainable production systems.\n\nExperience operating scalable production infrastructure, including debugging, troubleshooting and improving reliability.\n\nStrong understanding of infrastructure automation, observability, capacity management and operational excellence.\n\nGood fundamentals in Linux, networking and JVM-based systems, or curiosity to deepen expertise in these areas.\n\nStrong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across platform, infrastructure and product engineering teams.\n\nNice to have\nExperience contributing to Kafka or related open source distributed systems.\n\nExperience with Redpanda, WarpStream, AutoMQ, Pulsar or similar streaming technologies.\n\nExperience with JVM tuning, broker tuning, partition management or Cruise Control.\n\nExperience with tiered storage, diskless streaming architectures or multi-region event streaming platforms.\n\nExperience operating Tier-0 infrastructure at large scale.\n\nWhy Join Us?\nAt Deliveroo, you’ll do work that matters, solving real-world problems in a three-sided marketplace that’s constantly evolving.\nWe’re food lovers, problem solvers, community builders and more, brought together by a shared drive to make things better.
