What you’ll achieve

In this position as a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will develop innovations for exciting new PC products. The team thrives on innovation and operates with design freedom to implement the new technologies into Dell's products. You will work across product lines to provide class-leading mobile PC offerings for both commercial and consumer customers. You will:

  • Influence future mobile product design by providing technical expertise and engineering leadership, with a strong focus on the front-end design cycle
  • Collaborate with Marketing and cross-functional teams to define innovation strategies and generate customer-focused design concepts
  • Lead technical decision-making across multiple disciplines, including industrial design, usability, quality, and reliability
  • Develop and communicate design concepts using 3D CAD and FEA tools, and validate proof-of-concept prototypes for seamless integration
  • Drive design enablement with external partners, ensuring solutions meet specifications and are ready for integration into the product portfolio

Essential Requirements:

  • 9+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with a proven track record of delivering innovative, high-quality designs
  • Deep expertise in engineering design principles, including large-scale production, sheet metal, injection molding, electrical interconnects, heat extraction, and vibration control
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD systems (CREO preferred), with the ability to create concept models, analyze production designs, and clearly communicate technical ideas
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of interpreting mechanical simulations, evaluating design trade-offs, and ensuring optimal cost, performance, and quality
  • Collaborative mindset with experience driving design concepts forward, partnering effectively with internal teams and external development partners while thriving in both independent and team settings

Desirable Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Hands-on experience in the design and analysis of electronics enclosures, with PC, server, or similar product experience considered a strong plus; Practical experience in machine shop operations and prototype building, demonstrating ability to translate concepts into functional models

Compensation

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $187,000 - $242,000.
