The role will help shape a secure application that combines Python/FastAPI services, React and TypeScript user interfaces, Camunda workflow orchestration, modular services, data persistence, and integration with existing Defence tasking processes.\nResponsibilities:\nLead the design and development of scalable microservice-based applications.\nDefine technical architecture, engineering standards and delivery guardrails for the development team.\nGuide implementation of workflow orchestration using BPMN, Camunda 8 and Zeebe-style patterns.\nProvide hands-on leadership across frontend, backend, platform and integration workstreams.\nEnsure the solution is secure, maintainable and suitable for deployment within Government environments.\nSupport integration with existing Defence systems, intelligence workflows and platform services.\nChampion DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing and secure cloud-native engineering practices.\nConduct code reviews, mentor team members and support technical assurance activity.\nChampion responsible AI-coding (e.g. Claude Code) practices combining speed with security and resilience.\nSupport customer demos, technical reviews, sprint planning and architecture discussions.\nEssential Skills:\nSignificant experience delivering software solutions in MOD, Defence Intelligence, National Security or comparable secure environments.\nProven experience leading agile software development teams.\nStrong engineering background across Python, FastAPI, REST APIs, React and TypeScript.\nExperience designing and delivering microservice architectures.\nExperience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB and mixed data-store architectures.\nExperience with Kubernetes-based platforms and containerised deployment.\nKnowledge of secure system design, identity/access controls and service-to-service security.\nExperience working directly with Defence stakeholders, architects and delivery teams.\nExperience establishing engineering standards, code quality practices and technical governance.\nExperience with MOD development and deployment environments.\nDesirable Skills:\nCamunda 8, Zeebe, BPMN or equivalent workflow orchestration platforms.\nAI-enabled applications, LLM integrations, semantic search or agentic workflow concepts.\nGCP experience.\nEvent-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging patterns.\nDevSecOps and platform engineering leadership experience.\nIR35\nAs a means of managing tax, commercial and reputational risks, Deloitte prohibits the use of Associates through Personal Service Companies (‘PSCs’).
