Senior Software Development Engineer

We are looking for an experienced software engineer to join our Purchase team as a Senior Software Development Engineer. In this role, you'll create, enhance, and support our Purchase product and domain. This role requires a passion for building and delivering applications and systems that our customers and stakeholders love. This position will contribute technical expertise to design and develop business, application, data, and infrastructure solutions, seek opportunities to optimise performance, maintain and troubleshoot application components as required, quickly resolve problems and provide timely follow-up. This development role will be responsible for developing and implementing Java/J2EE applications and APIs/Microservices in AWS cloud.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with product team members (UX, architects, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions.
• Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases, and to do destructive testing to ensure adequate resiliency in production.
• Identifies unsecured code areas and implements fixes as they are discovered with or without tooling.
• Identifies, implements, and shares technical solutions that can be used across the portfolio.
• Identifies product enhancements to create a better experience for the end users.
• Research and/or investigate technical issues impacting the organisation and recommend solutions.
• Provides application support for software running in production.
• Proactively reviews the Performance and Capacity of all aspects of production: code, infrastructure, data, and message processing.
• Triages high-priority issues and outages as they arise.
• Participates in learning activities around agile software development and development core practices, and mentors other team members in these best practices.
• Designs and builds scalable, resilient solutions with strong coverage for edge cases and failure scenarios.
• Creates reusable AI prompt templates and development patterns for consistent, scalable workflows.

Requirements:

• Experienced in full-stack cloud-native development, RESTful APIs, and stateless microservices architectures.
• At least 5 years of experience with Java 8/J2EE and the Spring framework.
• Experience in designing and implementing RESTful services using XML/JSON.
• Strong AWS experience with a background in API Microservices development.
• Experience with core AWS services like Lambdas, S3 SQS, SNS, EC2 Code Pipeline, Athena, DynamoDB, RDS.
• Strong understanding of core AWS services and applying best practices regarding security and scalability.
• Use AI-driven log analysis, anomaly detection, and observability tools to identify defects and performance issues early.
• Exposure to GenAI tools and platforms, including Amazon Q Developer and AWS Kiro, to enhance SDLC processes and improve engineering productivity.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, and documentation workflows.
• Strong awareness of emerging GenAI trends such as AI Agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and evolving enterprise AI ecosystems.
• Ability to apply AI-driven solutions to streamline the development lifecycle, optimise efficiency, and improve product delivery outcomes.
• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and promote engineering excellence and best practices within the team.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals and virtual networks from a cloud point of view.
• Knowledge and/or experience in working with 12-factor methodology and understanding its benefits, and able to demonstrate appropriate patterns to other team members
• Able to independently create and maintain automation test jobs and execute as part of a CI/CD pipeline.
• Experience of working in distributed agile teams using agile frameworks such as SCRUM, SAFe, XP, etc.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices, with tools such as Git/Gitlab, Jira/VersionOne/Agility, Jenkins/Tekton, Gradle, Ansible.
• Knowledge and/or experience with messaging solutions such as ActiveMQ or Kafka.
• Ability to clearly communicate and coordinate with peers, product owners, and cross-functional teams and design a relevant and time-to-market solution.

Good to Have:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field is preferred.
• Experience with eCommerce application.
