Delta TechOps IT is seeking a Software Development Engineer who will contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of scalable backend and full-stacksystems supporting retail applications such as order management, catalogue services, cart operations, and store operations. The role focuses on building reliable microservices, APIs, cloud-native solutions, and AI-enabled capabilities while collaborating closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.
The ideal candidate will leverage modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, agentic capabilities, automation-first approaches, and Human + AI collaboration models to improve productivity, code quality, operational efficiency, and delivery velocity. This role offers an opportunity to work on next-generation retail platforms aligned with the organisation's future-state architecture and AI-first engineering vision.
Requirements:
- Foundational and Advanced Data Engineering Experience: Hands-on experience designing and maintaining scalable pipelines. Covers ETLs, data modelling, schema design, pipeline orchestration, and structured/semi-structured data formats (JSON).
- SQL (Advanced): Strong command of SQL for transformation, analysis, and optimisation. Includes window functions, CTEs, subqueries, and performance tuning across platforms like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Azure Synapse.
- Python (Advanced): Production-grade Python for data engineering. Includes pandas, polars, or PySpark for data manipulation, REST API integrations, and writing clean, testable, well-documented code.
- Experience with Data and Low-Code Platforms: Hands-on with at least one enterprise data or app platform (e. g., Palantir Foundry, Microsoft Power Platform, Azure Data Factory, or Databricks).
- Experience Using LLMs in a Development Context: Practical experience integrating LLMs into workflows or applications via prompt engineering, APIs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic), or RAG pipelines.
- Basic UI / Application Development Skills: Ability to build or configure simple user-facing applications, whether through code or low/no-code tools. Examples include: building dashboards or apps in Power Apps, Power BI, or Workshop; or front-end development with HTML/CSS/JavaScript.
- Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and well-documented code following engineering best practices.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- Basic hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
- Experience with source control systems such as GitHub or GitLab.
Good to Have:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems or related technical field is preferred.
- Experience working in an airline technology environment is preferred.
- AWS Certified Developer certification.
- Experience with a modern front-end framework is a plus.
- Experience with microservices architecture and serverless computing.
- Understanding of networking and security principles in cloud environments.
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) for connecting AI models to external tools and data sources.
AI-First Engineering Skills:
- Hands-on experience leveraging AI-enabled development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Amazon Q, Kiro, Cursor, CodeWhisperer, or equivalent AI coding assistants throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Practical experience using AI tools for code generation, debugging, refactoring, test case creation, documentation, code reviews, and developer productivity improvements.
- Understanding of AI-assisted software engineering practices and prompt engineering fundamentals.
- Awareness of agentic AI concepts, intelligent automation frameworks, and autonomous workflow orchestration.
- Ability to effectively operate within Human + AI collaboration models, integrating AI-generated outputs into engineering workflows while ensuring quality and security standards.
- Demonstrated AI-first and automation-first engineering mindset.
Preferred Skills:
- 2 - 4 years of professional software development experience.
- Palantir Foundry Experience: Direct experience building in Foundry, ideally across transforms (Python/SQL), Ontology configuration, Workshop, Pipeline Builder, or OSDK.
- TypeScript: Proficient in TypeScript for Foundry-native development, such as Functions (v1/v2), custom Workshop widgets, or OSDK-powered applications.
- OSDK React Application Development: Experience: Building front-end apps with Palantir's Ontology SDK using React and TypeScript. Familiarity with Blueprint.js is a plus.
- Cloud Platform Familiarity: Working knowledge of Azure, AWS, or GCP, particularly storage, compute, and data services (e. g., Data Lake, S3 BigQuery).
- Data Governance and Security Awareness: Familiarity with RBAC, data markings, row-level security, and data classification best practices.
- DevOps / CI/CD Practices: Experience with Git workflows, automated testing, and deployment pipelines in a data or platform engineering context.
- Ontology / Semantic Data Modelling: Ability to design meaningful object types, link types, and relationships that map raw data to real-world business concepts.
- Testing and Code Quality: Experience writing unit/integration tests (e. g., pytest, transform expectation testing) with a focus on documentation and maintainable code.
