Candidates must be based in Italy as we are unable to support remote working from outside the country due to local employment and tax legislation. \nThis role leads the team that runs Deltatre's data services: large-scale data processing, onboarding and offboarding of tenant data, and the content recommendations behind our customers' products.\nAs Senior Engineering Manager, Data Services, you'll set direction and review designs rather than write code day to day. This is a technical leadership role: you'll lead a distributed team, and be the senior technical escalation point for customers on how their data is handled.\nResponsibilities\nDelivery and team leadership\nLead a mixed team of permanent analysts and contract engineers across three regions to predictable, high-quality delivery\nBuild strong asynchronous working practices across the distributed team\nData platform and recommendations\nSet technical direction and run design review for the Java/AWS estate (S3, EMR, Kinesis)\nOwn SLOs for data freshness and pipeline reliability\nOwn incident response and cloud cost\nOwn the pipelines and services behind content recommendations, and how their quality is measured\nTenant data and governance\nOwn a repeatable, auditable onboarding and offboarding process for tenant data, including verified deletion when a tenant leaves\nWork with the Cyber Security team on controlled, audited access to tenant data, including cross-region access\nEnsure compliance with GDPR and other privacy regulations\nProduct and customer partnership\nPartner with Product on the roadmap\nAct as the technical escalation point for customers, working with account managers and solutions engineers\nRequisiti\nThis is the experience that will help you hit the ground running.\nRequired\n10+ years in software or data engineering\n4-5 years leading engineering teams\nTrack record leading distributed teams across time zones, including contractors or a delivery partner\nDeep Java/JVM experience, enough to review designs and challenge approaches\nDeep AWS data services experience, enough to spot cost or reliability problems\nPractical experience with data privacy and access control\nPractical experience with regulatory compliance, including GDPR and other privacy regulations\nConfidence explaining technical decisions to customers and senior stakeholders\nValued\nExperience with recommendation systems\nExperience with multi-tenant SaaS data platforms\nBackground in media, streaming, or sports technology\nWho Thrives Here\nThis role sits where engineering depth meets customer trust. It suits someone who stays technical enough to challenge a design or spot a cost or reliability problem without writing the code, and who leads a team spread across three regions, mixing permanent staff and contractors, without everyone being online at the same time.\nPeople who do well here make working agreements explicit, so a team across time zones delivers predictably in writing rather than only in meetings. They treat privacy, access control, and verified deletion as engineering requirements rather than checkboxes, and they explain a technical decision to a customer or senior stakeholder in terms they can act on.\nProcess and what to expect\nSalary starts from €30,000 at entry level rising to €90,000 for those with significant relevant experience.
