Candidates must be based in the UK as we are unable to support remote working from outside the country due to local employment and tax legislation. \nThis role sits within Deltatre's Technical Operations Center (TOC), a 24/7 global operation that acquires signals and streams linear channels and live events via satellite, IP, and fiber. Operators work in a shift pattern, monitoring channels, systems, and alerts around the clock. The role reports to the TOC Lead.\nAs Senior TOC Operator, you will do the hands-on work - signal acquisition, encoding and streaming, monitoring, and L1 troubleshooting - while overseeing the TOC Operators' day-to-day work on 24/7 linear channels, system and alert monitoring, and UXQA checks as needed. You'll also help shape the procedures, automation, and onboarding that keep the team effective.\nResponsibilities\nLive signal acquisition and streaming\nAcquire signals via IP, satellite, or fiber\nStream 24/7 linear channels and live events using a variety of encoders\nSupport the video encoding technologies used by the company\nAssist with daily system checks\nMonitoring, troubleshooting, and incident management\nMonitor 24/7 linear channels, systems, and alerts, including UXQA checks as needed\nMitigate basic issues and carry out L1 troubleshooting\nEscalate issues effectively, and track and report incidents clearly\nRegularly review and report on incident management performance, ensuring tickets are resolved in a timely and effective way\nTeam oversight and scheduling\nOversee and manage the TOC Operators, ensuring effective day-to-day operations\nMaintain schedules for broadcasts and staff\nMaintain rosters for sickness and annual leave to ensure adequate team coverage and compliance with business needs\nProcedures, automation, and team development\nDefine and improve procedures and best practices for linear channel and system monitoring\nDefine and improve procedures and best practices for signal acquisition via IP, satellite, or fiber\nDrive automation initiatives to streamline recurring tasks, reducing manual effort and errors\nFacilitate cross-training within the team to build flexibility and capability\nOwn the onboarding and training of new starters, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to succeed\nRequisiti\nThis is the experience that will help you hit the ground running.\nRequired\n2+ years' experience in live transmission and/or 24/7 OTT broadcast environments or similar\n2+ years' experience of B2C and B2B live streaming at scale\nExcellent knowledge of broadcast systems, broadcast IT systems, and their supporting networks, including basic network configuration and troubleshooting\nHands-on experience with satellite downlinking and fiber acquisition\nExperience with IP formats such as HLS, RTMP, and SRT, and general use of streaming protocols and encoders/transcoders\nExperience analyzing service operations data to support incident management, and identifying service issues, following standard procedure or establishing workarounds on the fly\nUnderstanding of quality standards for service delivery, the resources needed to deliver live broadcast services, the causes and consequences of service failure, and business continuity procedures\nExcellent written and spoken English\nProficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Sheets/Docs, and both Mac and PC\nA secondary school qualification (High School Diploma, GED, or A-level equivalent)\nAble to work flexible and unsociable hours, including nights, national holidays, and weekends\nValued\nCollege or university degree or coursework\nWho Thrives Here\nThis role works in a 24/7 global operation where a channel or live event can't be paused while you work out what's wrong. You're hands-on at the signal and encoder level and responsible for how the shift runs for the TOC Operators around you, often in the small hours, at weekends, and on national holidays. It suits someone who decides quickly and calmly when a feed is failing live - following procedure where one exists and building a workaround on the fly where it doesn't - and who escalates early with the incident details a colleague needs to pick the issue up.\nPeople who do well here work independently without a supervisor in the room, and are just as comfortable joining colleagues from other departments when a project needs it. They leave the team stronger than they found it: cross-training colleagues, bringing new starters up to speed, writing down what works, and automating repetitive tasks so the next shift makes fewer manual mistakes.
