This role spans the full design spectrum - from a single custom bracket to a complete machine - and covers the full product lifecycle from CAD concept through hands-on build, installation, and field deployment. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who brings strong mechanical design fundamentals, a proven design-to-build portfolio, and the willingness to get hands-on with equipment. Within the ESS team, this engineer also serves as a specialized escalation resource - brought in when complex equipment problems require deeper mechanical or design expertise to resolve. Travel averages up to 30% annually, typically in concentrated project-driven spurts around installations and commissioning events.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD across the full complexity spectrum - from simple fabricated parts and brackets to complete custom machines and integrated equipment systems.\nDevelop detailed engineering drawings and design documentation suitable for fabrication by internal teams or outside vendors; maintain archived design files for long-term support.\nAuthor equipment specifications and technical requirement documents for both internally developed and OEM-sourced equipment, ensuring clear standards for performance, quality, and safety.\nResearch and evaluate market-available print, packaging, and fulfillment equipment; perform detailed calculations to establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards.\nSource and specify custom and off-the-shelf components; coordinate procurement for beta and production equipment projects.\nWork independently and with cross-functional teams to validate business cases, build detailed project plans, and execute to completion.\nTest and validate OEM and internal equipment designs for throughput, quality, and robustness - from prototype through production installation.\nCoordinate and manage vendor relationships; evaluate supplier capabilities and lead vendor qualification activities.\nDevelop and maintain technical documentation including SOPs, work instructions, and equipment specifications.\nDirect and train individuals supporting engineering projects and equipment operations.\nMaintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, and industry trade shows.\nAct as a deep technical escalation resource within ESS - engaged when the team has exhausted standard troubleshooting and needs specialized mechanical or design expertise to resolve a critical equipment issue.\nProvide remote or on-site escalation support as needed; travel to affected facilities when the situation requires hands-on assessment or intervention.\nTravel up to 30% annually to U.S. and Canadian Deluxe facilities, primarily in concentrated project-driven periods. A valid passport is required.\nCreate and assemble custom machined, 3D created or sourced parts for beta and/or production equipment projects. Use mill, lathe, drill, welding, and associated shop equipment.\n\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3 years of relevant experience, OR Associate’s degree in a related technical field and 5 years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience, OR High School diploma/GED and 7 years of direct relevant experience\nProficiency in 3D CAD software with a demonstrated design-to-build portfolio\nComfortable serving as an internal escalation resource for the ESS team on critical equipment issues, including occasional remote or on-site response as needed\nMust be at least 18 years of age\nValid passport or ability to obtain one (role requires travel to Canada)\nPreferred Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME degree strongly preferred)\nProficiency in SolidWorks; our team works in SolidWorks and candidates with direct experience will be able to contribute immediately\nProven CAD portfolio demonstrating design-to-build projects across varying complexity levels\nExperience writing equipment specifications and technical requirement documents\nExperience in systems integration - connecting mechanical, electrical, and controls subsystems into cohesive equipment solutions\nExperience in the conventional and/or digital printing industry\nVendor coordination experience including sourcing, quoting, and supplier management\nProject management experience; PMP or equivalent a plus\nWorking knowledge of computer and electrical controls\nWillingness and ability to work hands-on with equipment on the production floor\nCompensation\nThe compensation range for this position is $88,000.00 - $100,000.00 annually. This position will be eligible for commission or an annual performance incentive plan.
