Supporting thousands of client interactions daily, MCD enables secure, resilient, and scalable connectivity through APIs, Kafka, MQ, SFTP, and modern integration technologies.\nAs a Principal Software Engineer, you will serve as a hands-on technical leader driving the modernization of enterprise platforms and client integration capabilities. You will help transform legacy architectures into cloud-native, event-driven solutions while shaping engineering standards, influencing technical strategy, and delivering highly resilient systems that support DTCC's long-term technology vision.\nThis is an opportunity to make a significant impact by advancing platform scalability, operational excellence, developer productivity, and client experience across mission-critical services.\nYour Primary Responsibilities:\nLead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, cloud-native applications using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture. \nDrive enterprise modernization initiatives by decomposing legacy applications, reducing database-centric business logic, and transitioning to distributed cloud-based solutions. \nDesign and implement large-scale event-driven architectures leveraging Apache Kafka and enterprise messaging technologies. \nBuild and support high-performance REST and SOAP APIs that enable secure and reliable client connectivity. \nDesign, develop, and deploy solutions utilizing AWS services including EC2, S3, SQS, IAM, and related cloud-native capabilities. \nDefine architecture, engineering standards, and modernization roadmaps across multiple initiatives and teams. \nLead technical design reviews, architectural governance, and solution evaluations to ensure scalability, resiliency, and maintainability. \nImprove system performance, reliability, security, observability, and operational excellence across distributed platforms. \nChampion engineering best practices including Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated testing, code quality, and CI/CD automation. \nOptimize data access, processing efficiency, and integration patterns across PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and distributed systems. \nPartner closely with Product, Architecture, Platform Engineering, and DevOps teams to deliver business-critical capabilities. \nTroubleshoot complex production issues and implement sustainable solutions that reduce operational risk. \nIdentify and address technical debt while driving continuous improvement across the technology ecosystem. \nMentor engineers and elevate software craftsmanship, engineering excellence, and technical leadership throughout the organization.\nQualifications\n10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with demonstrated success leading enterprise-scale application development, architecture, and modernization initiatives. \nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. \nProven experience designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems in complex enterprise environments. \nExperience leading modernization efforts involving legacy, monolithic, or database-centric platforms. \nStrong understanding of cloud-native architecture, microservices design patterns, and modern software engineering principles. \nExperience operating in highly regulated, mission-critical, or large-scale enterprise environments.\nTalent Needed for Success\nExpert-level proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and modern object-oriented software development.\nDeep experience designing, building, and operating microservices-based distributed systems.\nStrong hands-on experience developing cloud-native applications on AWS.\nExpertise implementing event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka.\nExperience with Redis for caching, performance optimization, and high-throughput processing.\nStrong understanding of APIs, system integration, scalability, resiliency, security, and performance engineering.\nExperience with asynchronous processing, distributed messaging, and real-time integration patterns.\nExperience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.\nStrong knowledge of PostgreSQL, data-intensive applications, and enterprise data processing.\nExperience with observability and monitoring practices across complex distributed systems.\nPreferred\nExperience with Angular or other modern front-end frameworks.\nExperience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, or container-based platforms.\nExperience modernizing mainframe or legacy enterprise applications.\nFinancial services, fintech, capital markets, or other highly regulated industry experience.\nExposure to AI-assisted software development tools and engineering productivity platforms.\nLeadership & Collaboration\nDemonstrated ability to influence technical strategy and architectural direction across multiple teams and initiatives.\nStrong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with engineers, architects, product leaders, and executive stakeholders.\nProven success mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.\nAbility to navigate ambiguity, drive alignment, and lead complex technology transformation execution across cross-functional organizations.\nThe salary range is indicative for roles at the same level within DTCC across all US locations.
