Dept is a Dutch digital agency founded in 2015 through the combination of several Amsterdam agencies, and it has grown rapidly by acquiring creative, technology and marketing firms across Europe and North America. It works at the intersection of creative campaign work, engineering and data, delivering brand campaigns, digital products, commerce platforms and performance marketing for consumer and technology clients. Headquartered in Amsterdam and owned by the private equity firm Carlyle, it employs several thousand people and positions itself against both traditional advertising networks and technology consultancies.

Growth Director, Denmark (Experience & Engineering)

Copenhagen, hybrid

DEPT® is a Growth Invention company built to help the world’s most ambitious brands grow faster. Operating at the intersection of technology and marketing, our 4,000+ specialists deliver growth invention services across Brand & Media, Experience, Commerce, CRM, and Technology & Data. We’re 50|50 tech and marketing, partner-led, and first to move. Clients include Google, Lufthansa, Meta, eBay, and OpenAI. We have been certified B Corp and Climate Neutral since 2021.

JOB PURPOSE

This role is part of our Experience & Engineering team based in Copenhagen. We combine our skills in developing future-ready technical solutions with our expertise in creating beautiful designs to deliver exceptional and engaging digital experiences that build lasting relationships with our clients like Bolia, Inter Milan, TDC, and Logitech.

We are looking for a tech-savvy opportunity builder who can connect commercial potential with a strong, relevant technology proposition.

This is not a traditional sales role focused on high-volume outreach. You will use market developments, client insights, and technology trends to identify where DEPT® can create meaningful value. You might recognise that a retailer is struggling with a legacy technology stack, has appointed a new digital leader, and is preparing for an ecommerce transformation, and turn those signals into a relevant commercial opportunity.

You will combine commercial instinct with enough technology fluency to challenge assumptions, uncover the real client problem, and shape an opportunity before it becomes a formal pitch. You understand that what initially looks like an Adobe implementation may actually be an operating-model, time-to-market, or integration challenge, and you know how to adjust the proposition accordingly.

If you enjoy building opportunities from the ground up, bringing the right experts together, and turning complex client challenges into lasting partnerships, this role is for you.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Create and Shape Opportunities

  • Identify new business opportunities based on client challenges, market developments, organisational changes, and emerging technology trends.
  • Develop an initial hypothesis around a prospect’s needs and determine why a conversation with DEPT® would be relevant.
  • Turn broad or ambiguous client questions into clearly defined commercial opportunities.
  • Challenge the initial brief to uncover the underlying business, customer, operational, or technology challenge.
  • Shape opportunities before they enter a formal proposal or pitch process, defining the right strategic direction, capabilities, and experts required.

Build Client Relationships

  • Build and nurture relationships with senior marketing, digital, ecommerce, product, and technology decision-makers.
  • Lead consultative conversations that connect business ambitions with opportunities across digital experience, engineering, commerce, data, and AI.
  • Represent DEPT® confidently in senior client conversations, translating complex topics into clear and commercially compelling ideas.
  • Build credibility as a trusted partner by bringing relevant perspectives, challenging assumptions, and identifying opportunities clients may not yet have fully recognised.

Develop the Pipeline

  • Proactively create and qualify new business opportunities through targeted outreach, events, partnerships, existing relationships, and collaboration with marketing and client teams.
  • Manage opportunities throughout the commercial process, from initial insight and first conversation to proposal, negotiation, and signed agreement.
  • Maintain a healthy, focused pipeline and take ownership of progressing opportunities.
  • Use CRM tools such as Salesforce to track activity, forecast accurately, and maintain strong pipeline discipline.

Lead Proposals and Pitches

  • Lead pitch processes from initial qualification through to presentation and negotiation.
  • Define the pitch strategy and narrative, ensuring it addresses the client’s underlying challenge rather than simply responding to the stated brief.
  • Work closely with strategists, delivery leads, solution architects, creatives, and subject-matter experts to develop strong and differentiated propositions.
  • Determine which capabilities and specialists are needed, bringing the right people into the process at the right time.
  • Challenge teams constructively to ensure proposals are strategically sharp, technically credible, and commercially compelling.

Connect Our Capabilities and Ecosystem

  • Develop a strong understanding of DEPT®’s capabilities across digital experience, commerce, engineering, cloud, data, and AI.
  • Understand the role of key technology partners such as Adobe, Shopify, Optimizely, Bloomreach, and Contentstack, and identify where these partnerships can create client value.
  • Connect opportunities across teams and capabilities, helping clients see the broader transformation potential beyond a single platform or implementation.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Strong experience in business development, consultative sales, digital transformation, or a commercially focused client leadership role within a digital agency, technology consultancy, systems integrator, or technology ecosystem.
  • A consultative commercial mindset: you create opportunities based on client problems, market insight, and technology context rather than simply pursuing existing leads.
  • Strong technology fluency. You do not need to be a solution architect, but you understand digital platforms, ecosystems, integrations, and transformation challenges well enough to provide direction and challenge assumptions.
  • Experience selling project-based digital or technology services, ideally across areas such as digital experience, ecommerce, CMS, PIM, DAM, cloud, content supply chain, data, or AI.
  • The ability to turn an unclear client need into a focused opportunity, initial proposition, and compelling pitch direction without relying entirely on strategists or technical experts.
  • Experience leading complex proposals and pitches involving multiple stakeholders, disciplines, and decision-makers.
  • Confidence engaging senior stakeholders at director and C-level across business, marketing, digital, and technology functions.
  • A structured approach to qualification, pipeline management, forecasting, and commercial decision-making.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to make complex business and technology topics clear, relevant, and engaging.
  • Energy, curiosity, and ownership, combined with a collaborative approach that brings people together around an opportunity.

Nice to Have

  • Experience within a digital or technology agency, digital transformation consultancy, or systems integrator with a strong digital-experience practice.
  • A background as a business director, commercial director, digital transformation lead, or strategist or consultant who has moved into a commercially focused role.
  • Experience selling services and solutions within a major technology ecosystem, rather than focusing primarily on software licences.
  • Familiarity with complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles and enterprise buying processes.
  • A strong interest in how AI and emerging technologies are reshaping businesses, customer experiences, and digital services.

WE OFFER

  • A healthy, varied and delicious lunch.
  • Pension & healthcare scheme.
  • 25 vacation days per year.
  • A lot of fun social events such as Friday bars, company parties, team events, etc.
  • A flexible, hybrid working policy and a great workplace in our awesome office in Christianshavn.
  • A reputation for doing good. DEPT® has been a Certified B Corp® since 2021 and named ‘Agency of the Year’ at both The Lovies and The Webby Awards.
  • Awesome clients. Whether big or small, local or global - at DEPT® you’ll get the opportunity to work with clients of all sizes and across all industries. And we celebrate all of our successes together!
  • The opportunity for possibility. We want to enable you to do what you do best and help you develop your skills further with training and development.
  • Global annual DEPT® Cares Month in which employees come together and donate their skills to support local charities.

WHY DEPT®?

We are a Growth Invention company built to help the world’s most ambitious brands grow faster. Operating at the intersection of technology and marketing, we create what is next by pioneering ideas, acting fast, and moving further because standing still just is not in our DNA.

We are drawn to people who stay curious, move with intent, and never stop inventing. Our culture runs on three values: better together, relentlessly curious, and get sh*t done. It is how we work, how we grow, and how we make things that matter.

At DEPT®, you will find the freedom to explore, the space to collaborate, and the trust to make a real impact for our clients, for each other, and for the world we are helping to build.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION

At DEPT®, we take pride in creating an inclusive workplace where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive. We actively seek to recruit, develop, nurture, and retain talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, with varying skills and perspectives.

Not sure you meet all qualifications? Apply, and let us decide! Research shows that women and members of underrepresented groups tend not to apply for jobs when they think they may not meet every requirement, when in fact they do. We believe in giving everyone a fair chance to shine.

We also encourage you to reach out to us and discuss any reasonable adjustments we can make to support you throughout the recruitment process and your time with us.
