We are looking for strong technical people who are interested in working at the intersection of AI, Security, and Infrastructure.\nAbout This Role\nWe’re looking for an Infrastructure Software Engineer to build, scale, and secure the infrastructure that powers depthfirst. You’ll own our cloud and Kubernetes environments alongside the production services that manage sandboxes, orchestrate workloads, and control compute resources throughout their lifecycle.\nThis role combines deep infrastructure expertise with hands-on software engineering. You’ll design and develop infrastructure services and APIs, improve the reliability and efficiency of our systems, and strengthen the security of our compute environments. Your work will span application code, distributed systems, containers, networking, and cloud infrastructure.\nYou’ll own systems from architecture and implementation through deployment and ongoing operation. As depthfirst grows, you’ll shape how we scale our platform while keeping it reliable, secure, and straightforward to operate.\nYou’re excited about this role because you will…\nBuild and operate the cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes clusters that support our production systems and engineering teams.\n\nDesign and develop production sandbox management and orchestration services, including APIs and distributed coordination for allocation, isolation, health monitoring, failure recovery, and resource lifecycle management.\n\nImprove workload scheduling, autoscaling, and capacity management to support growing and variable demand.\n\nStrengthen infrastructure security through workload isolation, access controls, network policies, and secure configuration.\n\nImprove performance and cost efficiency by reducing startup latency, increasing resource utilization, and addressing system bottlenecks.\n\nBuild observability and operational tooling that help engineers understand system behavior and resolve problems quickly.\n\nDebug production issues across service code, Kubernetes, Linux, networking, and cloud infrastructure, then implement durable fixes.\n\nImprove infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and upgrade processes to make changes repeatable and reliable.\n\nQualifications\nExperience building and operating cloud infrastructure and production systems in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or a similar role.\n\nStrong hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes, including workload scheduling, networking, resource management, scaling, and troubleshooting.\n\nFamiliarity with different deployment architectures/concepts such as SaaS, Bring-Your-Own-Cloud, air-gapped, etc.\n\nStrong software engineering skills in a language such as Go, with experience designing, building, and maintaining production services.\n\nExperience developing distributed systems, including handling concurrency, retries, partial failures, and resource lifecycle management.\n\nA solid understanding of Linux, containers, networking, and cloud security fundamentals.\n\nExperience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and production observability.\n\nAbility to reason about tradeoffs between reliability, security, performance, cost, and operational complexity.\n\nOwnership from design and implementation through deployment and ongoing operation.\n\nStrong communication skills and the ability to work through ambiguous problems with other engineers.\n\nBased in or willing to relocate to San Francisco.\n\nBonus Points For\nDeep experience with AWS and EKS, Helm, and Terraform or Pulumi.\n\nExperience building infrastructure control planes, Kubernetes controllers, operators, or workload orchestration systems.\n\nExperience with sandboxing, virtualization, or secure execution environments.\n\nExperience supporting workloads with high concurrency or rapidly changing compute demand.\n\nExperience building infrastructure for AI platforms, developer tools, or security products.\n\nWhat We Offer\nCompetitive salary with meaningful equity.\n\nHealth, vision, and dental insurance.\n\nOffice lunch and dinner when working from our San Francisco office.\n\nDirect ownership of foundational systems and influence over technical direction.\n\nThe opportunity to work at the cutting edge of AI and security.\n\ndepthfirst is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy or related condition, or any other basis protected by law.\nTo all recruitment agencies: depthfirst does not accept agency resumes.
