Lead Business Analyst

The Lead Business Analyst - Data Management & Analytics is responsible for bridging business requirements and data/technology delivery. The role will lead business analysis activities for data-driven initiatives, translating business needs

into clear requirements, business rules, data requirements, functional specifications, and actionable delivery plans.

The role will be working closely with business stakeholders, data owners, application teams, data engineers, data governance teams, and technical developers to ensure that data solutions deliver the required business outcomes

while maintaining data quality, governance, traceability, and regulatory alignment.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Requirements Management

• Lead requirement-gathering activities with business stakeholders and subject-matter experts.
• Facilitate business requirement workshops, walkthroughs, validation sessions, and stakeholder discussions.
• Translate business requirements into detailed Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), functional requirements, business rules, data requirements, and acceptance criteria.
• Analyze business processes, identify gaps, dependencies, and improvement opportunities.
• Ensure requirements are clearly understood and traceable throughout the solution delivery lifecycle.
• Manage requirement changes and assess their business and data impact.

Data Analysis & Business Rules

• Analyze source systems, datasets, data availability, field definitions, relationships, and data flows to determine whether business requirements can be supported.
• Define and document business rules, calculation logic, validation criteria, thresholds, exception criteria, and reporting requirements.
• Work with technical teams to translate business rules into data transformations, analytical logic, and reporting solutions.
• Validate data outputs against approved business requirements and expected business outcomes.
• Perform root-cause analysis for data discrepancies, quality issues, and reporting gaps.

Data Management & Governance

• Support business stakeholders in identifying and defining Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
• Support data ownership, stewardship, business glossary, metadata, and data-domain activities.
• Ensure business requirements are aligned with data governance policies and organizational data-management standards.
• Collaborate with Data Governance and Data Quality teams to identify and remediate data-quality issues.
• Define data-quality rules and validation requirements based on business expectations.
• Support data governance and regulatory initiatives, including NDMO and PDPL-related requirements where applicable.

Analytics & Reporting

• Lead the business analysis component of data analytics, dashboards, management reporting, and business intelligence initiatives.
• Gather and validate reporting requirements from business users.
• Define KPI/KRI requirements, calculation logic, thresholds, exception criteria, reporting frequency, and expected outputs.
• Review dashboards, reports, and analytical outputs to ensure they accurately represent approved business requirements.
• Support business users during User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including test-scenario definition, validation, defect clarification, and sign-off.

Stakeholder & Delivery Management

• Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams.
• Coordinate with data owners, application owners, DBAs, data engineers, developers, and other technology teams.
• Track requirements, dependencies, risks, issues, and delivery actions.
• Facilitate status meetings, workshops, walkthroughs, and decision-making sessions.
• Support project planning, project charters, SOPs, delivery documentation, and operational-readiness activities.
• Support go-live planning, post-production validation, issue resolution, and knowledge-transfer activities.

Solution & Technical Collaboration

• Work closely with Data Engineers and Solution Architects to ensure proposed solutions meet business requirements.
• Understand data integration, ETL/ELT, data warehouse, data lake/lakehouse, metadata, and data-quality concepts sufficiently to challenge and validate technical solutions.
• Analyze SQL-based datasets and technical metadata to validate requirements and investigate data issues.
• Review data mappings and source-to-target specifications.
• Participate in solution walkthroughs and provide business-analysis input into technical design decisions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Business Analysis, Data Management, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related field.
• Strong experience gathering and documenting business requirements.
• Experience working across business and technical teams.
• Strong understanding of data analysis, data quality, data integration, and reporting.
• Experience defining business rules, data requirements, KPIs/KRIs, and validation criteria.
• Experience with UAT, stakeholder validation, and solution acceptance.
• Experience working with data governance, metadata, data ownership, and data-quality concepts.
• Experience in banking, financial services, or other highly regulated environments is preferred.
• Experience with regulatory/data-management frameworks such as NDMO and PDPL is advantageous.

Technical & Analytical Skills

• Strong SQL and data-analysis capabilities.
• Understanding of ETL/ELT and data integration concepts.
• Understanding of Data Warehouse, Data Lake, and Lakehouse architectures.
• Experience with BI and visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Understanding of data-quality management and profiling.
• Understanding of metadata and data-catalog concepts.
• Experience with data-governance platforms such as Informatica Axon/EDC is advantageous.
• Experience with Informatica, Cloudera, Alteryx, or similar data platforms is advantageous.
• Ability to understand technical data structures and translate them into business language.

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Data Management, or a related discipline.
• Professional certifications in Data Management, Business Analysis, Data Governance, or related areas are preferred.
