The individual will perform work associated with Alabama’s Clean Water Act (CWA) §401 Water Quality Certification program permitting, federal CWA §404/401 permitting (which includes all aspects of wetlands inventory, analysis, delineation and mitigation) and all aspects of species coordination with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Our commitment to excellence stems from our personal integrity and from other defining attributes, which we call “Dewberry at Work,” that have inspired our employees to be successful for more than a half-century.\nResponsibilities\nPrimary focus is to execute project activities with clients, project teams and coordinate with regulatory agencies.\nCoordinate field visits with clients and regulatory agencies.\nConduct soil, hydrology and vegetation inventory, species assessments and surveys and plant identifications.\nPrepare environmental permit applications for local governments, Alabama’s CWA §401 Water Quality Certification program, DCNR and USFWS (including Gopher Tortoise), federal CWA §404 and CWA §401 permit applications, and NPDES.\nComplete post permit compliance monitoring.\nDocument and summarize results of field investigations and analyses.\nPrepare plans, specifications, maps, exhibits and supporting documentation for client and regulatory approvals.\nProvide client and regulatory agency coordination.\nSupport proposal preparation, contract execution, and budget/schedule adherence.\nPerform technical work and develop project execution strategies.\nEvaluate site conditions and select wetlands identification, mitigation and regulatory approval strategies.\nRequired Skills & Required Experience\nA Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or related field is required. An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Biology, Botany, Conservation Biology, Environmental Science & Policy, Hydrogeology or related field is a plus.\n4-6 years of work experience is required.\nCapability to execute and coordinate environmental permitting and environmental assessment activities with internal/external clients and regulatory agencies.\nProficiency with ArcMap/GIS, AutoCAD is preferred.\nKnowledge of Alabama environmental regulations and permitting, regulation submittals, wetland or environmental design, EPA Rapid Bio-Assessment, and a NEPA background preferred.\nProfessional Wetland Scientist, FWC Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent, ADEM Qualified Credentialed Inspector, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Stormwater, Sediment and Erosion Control Inspector (FDEP SECI) preferred.\nSpecific species experience (Gopher Tortoise, beach mice or other species-specific experience) a plus.\nExperience with Alabama Department of Transportation (ADOT) PD&E process preferred.\nAdditional Requirements:\nAbility to work in a team environment\nRegular field work in a variety of seasonal conditions.\nProficient in Microsoft Office Suite.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nLocal and occasional statewide travel is required for position.\nLocal and occasional statewide travel is required.\nJoin Dewberry and be part of a dynamic team that is dedicated to making a positive impact on the communities we serve.
