Meet the team:

The R&D Mechanical EngineeringCharacterizationTeamis responsible forthe feasibility and development of next-generation products at Dexcom.We’reseeking across-functionallydisciplined engineering managerwithsubject matterexpertiseacross mechanics, materials,andelectronic wearabledevicestolead thecharacterizationand materialsteamin developingtechnologically advanced products for high volume production.Positioned withintheMechanical Engineering team,this is a high visibility, high impact role inachievingDexcom’sproduct performance and reliability goalsthroughdeliveringfunctional excellence in theresearch,development,andcharacterizationof enabling technologies/designs& their integration to a product ecosystem.

Where you come in:

• As amanagerwithinthe mechanical engineering characterization team,youwill be accountable fordevelopment test strategy,metrology tools,execution ofperformancetesting,dataanalysisandsystemintegrationcharacterizationformechanical engineering.

• Youwillintegratecharacterization effortswiththe rest of the product sub-systemsand across functionstoachieve asuccessful launchthat meets reliability, cost,andperformance targets.

• Youwilllead the test characterization team indevelopingworld classmetrology tools for wearable devices and needle-baseddeliverymechanisms.

• You will lead a team of materials engineers,ensuring that adhesives and polymer material properties are linked to product performance

• In collaboration with advanced research,design verification, and operationsteams,you willcreateandmaturemeasurement systems and methodologiestocharacterize, verify, and validateDexcom products.

• You willdevelopand managestrong relationships andenhancecommunication withupstream technology research teams anddownstream product development process recipients (Design Verification,Operations,Commercial) toenable end-to-end concurrent engineering as a keystone of product design,in collaborationwithproject management,and product ownerteams.

• You haveextensivetest development (fixture design,programming,testprocedureandprotocol development, etc.) and characterizationexperience in the medical deviceindustry,working in ahigh-volume market.

• You have experience managingand/orleadingengineering professionalsto deliver high impact resultsandsupportingtheir career growth and development.

• You inspire othersthrough leading by example, providing healthy challenges,and deliveringeffectivefeedback that has ameasurableimpact onteam and individual growth.

• You bringdepth oftest developmentknowledgeandsystem integration experiencein a multidisciplinary product ecosystem (examplesbelow)

• Productsrequiringcharacterization and testing ofmultiphysicsdevices (E.g.electromechanical devices, wearables, biosensors, etc.).

• Direct experiencewithtesting and analyzing plastic components, including materials and polymerchemistryand experience intestingand analyzingplasticcomponents.

• You havea track recordofleading teamstodelivertechnicalexcellence, meetingtimelinesfor development,translatingtechnologyto design at scale, andexecutingprojectsas a technical leaderwith regular visibility to senior management.

• You have a solid understanding of statistics, with the ability to execute analyses (JMP or Minitab), to support engineering decisions

• Youthrive in environmentswhere there is ambiguity or uncertainty in product requirements and havea willingness to try and testnew ideas, coupled witha track recordof success in innovation in a fast-paced R&D environment.

• You exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies to determineappropriate action.

• You have excellent communication (written and verbal), collaboration, personalinteractionand liaison skills.

• 5-15%

Experience and Education Requirements:

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree with 8-12 years of industry experience

  • Requires a degree in a technical discipline
  • 2-5 years of previous management or lead experience
