Meet the Team

The R&D Process Development Lab supports the development, evaluation, and optimization of manufacturing processes, equipment, and test methods that enable Dexcom's next generation of glucose sensing technologies. The team collaborates closely with Product Development, Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations to transform innovative concepts into scalable and reliable manufacturing solutions.

As the Supervisor of the R&D Process Development Lab, you will lead and work along side a team of technicians responsible for executing development builds, process characterization studies, equipment evaluations, and engineering experiments. You will ensure laboratory operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable quality system requirements while enabling rapid innovation across multiple development programs.

Where You Come In

  • Lead and supervise daily operations of the R&D Process Development Lab, ensuring alignment with product development and process engineering priorities.
  • Manage a team of technicians and lab support personnel responsible for development builds, process studies, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance.
  • Partner with Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, R&D, and Quality teams to plan and execute experiments supporting new product and process development initiatives.
  • Oversee development equipment, fixtures, and laboratory resources to ensure readiness, reliability, and availability for engineering activities.
  • Drive execution of Design of Experiments (DOE), process characterization activities, feasibility studies, and pilot builds to support technology and product development programs.
  • Establish and maintain laboratory procedures, work instructions, training programs, and documentation practices consistent with quality system requirements.
  • Lead laboratory safety initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on laboratory efficiency, process capability, equipment utilization, and data quality.
  • Manage laboratory budgets, capital equipment purchases, vendor relationships, and resource planning activities.
  • Support internal and external audits through effective documentation, equipment records management, and training compliance.

What Makes You Successful

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience supporting engineering laboratories, process development, manufacturing development, or product development environments.
  • Experience supporting process development, manufacturing process characterization, or engineering development activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities while supporting multiple cross-functional development programs.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments such as medical devices, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, organization, and project management skills.
  • Experience with equipment qualification, calibration programs, change control processes, and quality system documentation requirements.
  • Working knowledge of data collection, process analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies including Lean and Six Sigma principles.
  • Experience with systems such as Maximo, electronic document management systems, and laboratory information systems is preferred.

Experience and Education Requirements:

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8-12 years of related experience.

  • At this level a graduate degree may be desirable with 4 years of related experience
