It’s a great place to learn, grow and see the bigger picture.\nAbout the team:\nAbout the role:\nThe Process Lead is responsible for leading payroll operations across assigned EMEA markets, ensuring payroll services delivered through outsourced payroll providers are accurate, timely, compliant, and provide an exceptional employee experience.\nThis is a hands-on operational leadership role where the individual will manage one or more payrolls while providing governance and operational oversight across the wider payroll portfolio. The role partners closely with outsourced payroll vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure payroll delivery meets agreed service levels, complies with statutory requirements, and aligns with Diageo's global payroll standards.\nThe Process Lead also supports payroll transformation initiatives, drives operational excellence, strengthens payroll controls, and acts as the first point of escalation for complex payroll issues.\nKey Responsibilities\nPayroll Operations\nLead end-to-end payroll operations for assigned EMEA payrolls.\nCoordinate payroll activities with outsourced payroll providers.\nEnsure payroll calendars and critical breakthroughs are delivered on time.\nManage payroll readiness activities throughout the payroll cycle.\nSupport off-cycle and ad hoc payroll processing where required.\nPayroll Governance & Quality Assurance\nReview payroll inputs and payroll outputs before payroll sign-off.\nPerform second-level validation of payroll reconciliations and variance reports.\nReview high-risk payroll transactions including incentives, termination payments, retro payments, and statutory payments.\nEnsure payroll quality standards are consistently achieved.\nSupport payroll sign-off and payment approval activities.\nVendor Management\nBuild strong operational relationships with outsourced payroll providers.\nMonitor payroll partner performance against agreed KPIs and SLAs.\nConduct operational governance meetings.\nReview Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA).\nDrive continuous improvements in vendor performance and service quality.\nPayroll Controls & Compliance\nEnsure payroll activities align with statutory requirements and company policies.\nComplete and review payroll controls in accordance with internal governance frameworks.\nSupport internal and external audits.\nMaintain payroll documentation and control evidence.\nEnsure segregation of duties and compliance with payroll approval processes.\nCustomer Management\nPartner with HR Operations, Reward, Finance, Treasury, Employment Tax, Global Mobility, and First Point teams.\nProvide payroll expertise and operational guidance to business stakeholders.\nManage complex payroll critical issues.\nEnsure effective communication throughout the payroll lifecycle.\nOperational Performance\nMonitor Payroll Accuracy, Payroll Timeliness, Query SLA, and operational KPIs.\nAnalyse payroll performance trends and identify improvement opportunities.\nDrive timely resolution of payroll issues and operational risks.\nSupport leadership reporting through operational dashboards and performance metrics.\nTeam Support & Knowledge Sharing\nProvide functional guidance and coaching to Payroll Specialists.\nSupport onboarding and knowledge transfer.\nShare standard methodologies across the payroll team.\nPromote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.\nContinuous Improvement & Transformation\nSee opportunities to simplify and standardise payroll processes.\nSupport payroll transformation initiatives, vendor transitions, and system enhancements.\nParticipate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for payroll-related changes.\nDrive automation and process optimisation initiatives.\nQualifications & Experience\nBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.\n5-8 years of payroll operations experience supporting multiple EMEA countries.\nExperience working with outsourced payroll providers.\nStrong understanding of payroll governance, controls, and compliance.\nExperience with Workday and payroll ticketing/case management systems.\nAdvanced Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting skills.\nExperience supporting payroll audits and regulatory compliance.\nSkills & Capabilities\nPayroll Expertise\nMulti-country payroll operations\nPayroll validation and reconciliation\nPayroll governance\nPayroll controls and compliance\nPayroll reporting and analytics\nVendor & Customer Management\nVendor governance\nSLA and KPI management\nCross-functional customer management\nIssue management\nProcess Improvement\nContinuous improvement\nProcess standardisation\nAutomation\nPayroll transformation\nRoot Cause Analysis (RCA)\nBehavioural Competencies\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills\nExcellent communication and customer management\nHigh attention to detail\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment\nCustomer-focused mentality\nStrong ownership and accountability\nSuccess Measures\nThe successful candidate will be measured on:\nPayroll Accuracy\nPayroll Timeliness\nQuery SLA Performance\nPayroll Partner KPI & SLA Achievement\nCompliance with Payroll Controls\nEmployee Experience\nAudit Readiness\nCustomer Satisfaction\nContinuous Improvement & Automation Outcomes\nRole Responsibilities:\nExperience / skills required:\nFlexible Working Statement:\nFlexibility is key to our success.
