The organisation helps businesses streamline document-heavy processes involving invoices, emails, spreadsheets, and other operational workflows.\nThe team follows a structured, AI-assisted development approach, using established application foundations, reusable software components, and systematic testing to deliver reliable solutions efficiently. This is an opportunity to contribute to practical software products while developing expertise in AI-assisted engineering practices.\nIdeal Profile\nCore Development Experience\nAt least 3 years of professional full-stack development experience, including a minimum of two years working with Python and Django.\nStrong understanding of Django fundamentals, including ORM, models, migrations, views, forms, templates, and the Django admin interface.\nExperience working with PostgreSQL and writing accurate, efficient database queries.\nPractical experience developing, maintaining, and debugging web applications.\nAI-Assisted Development\nRegular, hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar platforms.\nAbility to review AI-generated code critically, identify errors, and make appropriate corrections.\nExperience translating requirements into clear technical specifications and implementation plans before development.\nA strong preference for reusable components and existing solutions rather than unnecessary custom development.\nWillingness to use AI tools for code generation, testing, and documentation while maintaining responsibility for code quality.\nTesting & Engineering Practices\nExperience writing and maintaining automated tests, with a strong commitment to test-driven quality practices.\nConfidence using Git, pull requests, and code reviews.\nAbility to troubleshoot issues systematically and ensure tests pass throughout development.\nUnderstanding of secure coding practices, particularly permissions, multi-tenant data, and safe file uploads.\nCommunication & Work Management\nStrong written English, with the ability to prepare clear specifications, development plans, handover notes, and client updates.\nGood organisational skills and the ability to work independently from agreed plans.\nA commitment to honest progress reporting, timely escalation of blockers, and clear documentation.\nA proactive approach to identifying reusable improvements and preventing recurring defects.\nDesirable Experience\nAdvanced familiarity with Claude Code, including skills, plans, and subagents.\nExperience with SaaS Pegasus or similar Django starter kits.\nKnowledge of Tailwind CSS, HTMX, and Alpine.js.\nExperience with Celery, Redis, and background processing.\nFamiliarity with Stripe, Xero, Microsoft Graph, Microsoft 365, and SharePoint integrations.\nExperience with Docker, Render, or Azure Container Apps.\nExperience building AI-powered applications using Claude or OpenAI APIs, including prompts, structured outputs, and document extraction.\nResponsibilities\nApplication & Feature Development\nDevelop and maintain Python/Django applications, client automations, and SaaS product features based on agreed specifications and implementation plans.\nEstablish new projects using the organisation's existing application foundation and install appropriate reusable components.\nBuild user interfaces using established UI components, Django templates, Tailwind CSS, HTMX, and related technologies.\nReuse existing functionality wherever possible and develop new components only when necessary.\nAI-Assisted Software Development\nUse Claude Code as a core part of the development workflow to generate code, tests, and documentation.\nTranslate requirements into structured specifications and step-by-step development plans before implementation.\nGuide AI-assisted development through manageable tasks, reviewing the output carefully at each stage.\nIdentify and correct inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable AI-generated code before it reaches production.\nApply sound technical judgement when evaluating implementation approaches and generated solutions.\nTesting & Quality Assurance\nWrite and execute automated tests using tools such as pytest and Playwright.\nRun relevant tests after each development task and ensure the complete test suite passes before delivery.\nReview higher-risk code involving financial transactions, permissions, data deletion, and security with particular care.\nParticipate in code reviews, identify defects, and minimise avoidable rework through thorough validation.\nIntegrations & Deployment\nIntegrate applications with external systems, including Xero, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, email platforms, and Stripe.\nWork with PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, and other components of the existing technology stack.\nDeploy applications to Render and Azure Container Apps and troubleshoot issues affecting live systems.\nSupport the development and maintenance of reliable integrations and automated business workflows.\nReusable Components & Continuous Improvement\nInvestigate whether identified defects also affect existing application templates or reusable components.\nApply appropriate fixes to shared components to prevent recurring issues across projects.\nIdentify useful generic functionality and contribute it to the reusable component library.\nImprove development templates, testing practices, and implementation processes over time.\nDocumentation & Collaboration\nMaintain clear technical documentation, specifications, and implementation plans.\nProvide accurate progress updates and promptly raise blockers or tasks that exceed their estimates.\nPrepare written handover notes so work can be continued
