This role is hands-on, client-facing, and essential to ensuring precise, reliable, and scalable automation across HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and facility systems.\nThe Field PLC Engineer works independently on defined engineering assignments while collaborating closely with senior engineers, field teams, commissioning teams, vendors, contractors, and clients.\nKey Responsibilities:\nPLC Programming & Controls Development\nDevelop and modify PLC programs to control HVAC, central plant, mechanical, and electrical systems supporting tightly regulated data center environments.\nImplement customer-requested changes and updates to existing PLC databases, control sequences, and control strategies.\nConfigure PLC logic, tags, alarms, I/O structures, and system parameters in accordance with project requirements.\nSupport development of reusable code, templates, and standardized programming practices.\nTest PLC logic and validate system functionality prior to field deployment.\nClient & Project Support\nMeet with clients to understand mechanical, electrical, and automation requirements for large-scale facility systems.\nProvide technical input during client meetings, design reviews, and project coordination discussions.\nCollaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, vendors, and field teams to support successful delivery of PLC scope.\nCommunicate technical risks, open issues, and project status clearly and proactively.\nField, Commissioning & Troubleshooting\nSupport field and commissioning teams during system start-up, troubleshooting, and validation activities.\nDebug installation and programming issues during static and dynamic commissioning of building automation and special systems.\nDiagnose and resolve system errors in PLC logic, hardware, field devices, and communication networks.\nSupport integration of PLC systems with SCADA, BMS, EPMS, and other facility systems.\nDocumentation & Standards\nDocument programming workflows, logic changes, system configurations, and commissioning updates for project turnover.\nFollow established PLC programming standards, code review practices, naming conventions, and documentation requirements.\nMaintain organized project files and accurate technical records.\nParticipate in internal reviews and lessons learned to improve team execution.\nQualifications:\n6+ years of PLC programming, controls engineering, industrial automation, or related technical experience.\nWillingness and ability to travel up to 50-60%, including potential for extended site assignment\nExperience or working knowledge of Rockwell / Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 or similar PLC programming platforms.\nUnderstanding of PLC logic, I/O, field devices, industrial networks, and control system architecture.\nAbility to troubleshoot technical issues in PLC logic, hardware, and communication networks.\nStrong organization, task management, and documentation skills.\nAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment.\nSelf-directed, proactive, and capable of managing assigned work with appropriate oversight.\nOSHA 10 certification obtained within the past two (2) years is required.\nIf certification is not current or has not been completed, OSHA 10 training will be provided and must be successfully completed within the first week of employment.\nPreferred\nBachelor’s degree in Software, Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, or Mechatronics Engineering.\nExperience with HVAC controls, central plants, chillers, boilers, or mechanical systems.\nExposure to Ignition SCADA, HMIs, Kepware, EPMS, BMS, or facility integration platforms.\nExperience with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP, or OPC-UA.\nData center, hyperscale infrastructure, mission-critical facility, or systems integrator experience.\nPhysical Requirements:\nAbility to travel frequently to job sites by car or plane, up to 60%\nAbility to stand, walk, and move throughout job sites for extended periods\nAbility to climb ladders, stairs, and lifts as required\nAbility to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in tight or confined spaces\nAbility to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and materials up to 50 pounds\nManual dexterity to handle tools, wiring, and small components\nAbility to work at heights and in varying indoor
