Every day, our teams design, manufacture, and assemble advanced systems for some of the world’s most demanding industries. Our integrated engineering and manufacturing platform transforms complex designs into production-ready solutions, helping customers move faster, build smarter, and deliver critical systems when they matter most. Divergent is a qualified Tier 1 supplier to global automotive OEMs and supports leading U.S. aerospace and defense companies. \nJoin us and help push the boundaries of what can be built.\nPurpose\nJoin our mission to redefine aerospace and automotive manufacturing through advanced Additive Manufacturing. We are seeking a hands-on Additive Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to help transition next-generation Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) production equipment from development into high-volume manufacturing. \nThis role helps ensure our production equipment is stable, reliable, scalable, and capable of delivering world-class safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance. As our manufacturing footprint expands across multiple factories, you will solve equipment problems at the machine level and help transform those solutions into engineering standards deployed across the entire fleet. \nSuccess in this role requires strong troubleshooting skills, independent technical judgment, and the drive to grow into broader fleet-level ownership. You will work alongside senior equipment engineers to stabilize new machines, improve reliability, and build the standards that carry the fleet as it scales. \nThe Role\nAs an Additive Manufacturing Equipment Engineer II, you will take technical responsibility for assigned production equipment after engineering qualification. You will work at the intersection of equipment engineering, manufacturing, quality, reliability, and operations, applying independent judgment to solve complex problems and improving standard work with input from your manager and senior engineers. \nYou will: \nSupport the transition of newly developed production equipment from qualification into sustained manufacturing. \nDrive improvements in equipment reliability, throughput, yield, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) on assigned machines. \nTroubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls, and process-related issues affecting production, adapting established methods to new problems. \nApply and improve engineering standards that ensure consistency across production assets. \nProvide production feedback to design engineering on machine performance and reliability. \nSupport technical investigations and Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA) for equipment failures. \nContribute to cost reduction through equipment optimization and process improvements. \nSupport capital equipment installation, commissioning, and production readiness activities. \nAct as a technical resource for operators, technicians, and peers. \nEquipment Performance & Machine Ownership \nTake technical responsibility for assigned production L-PBF equipment following Operational Qualification (OQ). \nTrack performance against established baselines and improve machine capability across safety, quality, delivery, and cost. \nExecute standardized equipment configurations and flag deviations between machines and factories. \nContribute to engineering standards supporting future factory deployments. \nTroubleshooting & Reliability Engineering \nTroubleshoot equipment issues involving mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and process interactions. \nPerform root cause investigations using structured engineering methodologies. \nImplement corrective actions that eliminate recurring failures. \nImprove preventative maintenance procedures based on equipment performance, with manager input. \nProcess & Manufacturing Optimization \nImprove L-PBF equipment capability to increase throughput, yield, dimensional accuracy, and repeatability. \nImplement engineering solutions that increase machine utilization and operational efficiency. \nSupport qualification and validation activities for new equipment, process changes, and manufacturing improvements. \nEngineering Collaboration & Equipment Development \nProvide structured production feedback to equipment design teams on machine performance, serviceability, and manufacturability. \nCollaborate with controls, software, mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to resolve technical challenges. \nSupport Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Reliability (DFR) initiatives. \nFleet Standards & Technical Documentation \nDevelop and improve standard work, maintenance procedures, and calibration documentation with manager input. \nSupport configuration management and engineering change implementation across the production fleet. \nDocument lessons learned so they can be institutionalized into future machine deployments. \nQuality & Compliance \nSupport qualification of additive manufacturing equipment and processes to aerospace and automotive quality requirements. \nSupport Quality Engineering during audits, customer reviews, and process validation activities. \nAnalyze manufacturing defects and equipment-related quality issues and implement engineering solutions. \nFollow AS9100, AMS, PPAP, and internal quality system requirements. \nCapital Equipment & Factory Expansion \nExecute assigned scopes within capital equipment projects supporting factory growth. \nSupport factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and production ramp activities. \nContribute to technical readiness plans ensuring new equipment achieves production targets rapidly. \nBasic Qualifications\nAbility to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline. \n4-6 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, equipment engineering, reliability engineering, or advanced production environments. \nExperience supporting the launch or ramp of production equipment or processes. \nStrong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and/or controls systems. \nExperience with structured root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., RCCA, 5 Whys, Fishbone). \nAbility to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, quality, and maintenance teams. \nStrong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills. \nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) or other metal additive manufacturing technologies. \nExperience in aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, or other high-volume precision manufacturing environments. \nKnowledge of AS9100, AMS, PPAP, APQP, or equivalent quality systems. \nExposure to equipment reliability engineering, OEE improvement, or preventative maintenance programs. \nExperience working with machine sensor data or manufacturing analytics. \nExperience with controls systems, PLCs, industrial automation, or machine integration. \nExperience supporting capital equipment installation or commissioning. \nCompensation\nAt Divergent, our pay range is based on the level of the job.
