(DCI) has a two-semester internship opening for a highly motivated Junior Systems & Network Administrator to join our team.\nThis is a paid, part-time internship (15-20 hours/week) based in our Tallahassee, FL office, with hours scheduled flexibly around your classes. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience across both systems administration and networking. You will assist with internal IT support by managing help desk requests, provisioning employee workstations, and utilizing system monitoring tools, while also developing technical networking skills in configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting Cisco firewalls, switches, VLANs, and VPNs.\nWe believe in providing young talent with meaningful, real-world experience, and we are ideally seeking a candidate interested in turning this opportunity into a full-time career with DCI upon graduation. During business hours, you will learn our daily operational workflows and build the foundational skills needed to grow into a successful IT professional.\nRequirements\n As a Jr. Systems & Network Administrator, you will:\nProvide Internal IT Support: Act as a first point of contact for internal help desk requests, troubleshooting day-to-day hardware, software, and connectivity issues, supporting end-users, and escalating complex problems to senior engineering staff.\nAssist with Systems Administration: Help monitor and maintain system infrastructure, including Linux/Windows servers, VMware environments, and databases.\nProvision and Deploy Hardware: Prepare and configure new laptops and workstations for employee onboarding, ensuring all necessary operating systems, software applications, and security profiles are accurately installed before deployment.\nGain Hands-On Networking Experience: Support the configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of network hardware, including Cisco ASAs and switches.\nSupport Security Initiatives: Assist in managing access controls, monitoring firewalls, and reviewing system logs for usability or security concerns.\nMaintain Backups: Shadow the administration of backup systems, verify completion, and assist in routine backup testing.\nImprove Documentation: Build and maintain our internal IT wiki by writing clear technical documentation, manuals, and IT policies.\nResearch & Development: Study technical patch literature, test software upgrades, and assist the senior IT team in integrating new cloud (AWS/Azure) or system technologies.\nSuccess factors generally include a/an:\nHigh degree of pride in accuracy, attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and humble confidence\nSense of urgency and vigilance when it comes to security\nAnalytical mindset that naturally enjoys solving technical problems\nAn enjoyment in conducting research into technology related issues and topics \nCommitment to being readily available and supportive to their team\nProactive approach to systems maintenance\nDedication to teamwork and cooperation\nAbility to truly listen when communicating with others\nHigh regard for taking responsibility and ownership of one’s own work and actions\nKnack for thriving in a fast-paced environment and demonstrating responsible decisiveness\nNatural affinity for customer service-oriented helpfulness\nAbility to explain and document complex technical issues in a way that non-subject matter experts can understand\nPersonal passion for, or interest in, supporting criminal justice and law enforcement agencies\nDesire to lead by example through living the DCI core values of integrity, passion, customer service, innovation, and engagement\nQualifications\n\nThis job might be for you, if you possess the following:\n Education & Availability\nAre currently working towards a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related technology field\nAre available to work on-site in our Tallahassee office\nCan commit to a multi-semester internship (at least two consecutive semesters, including the Summer semester)\nAre able to start in the Spring 2027 semester and can work an average of 15-20 hours per week (Monday - Friday, scheduled around your classes)\n Technical Baseline & Interests\nAre eager to gain professional, hands-on experience in both systems and network administration\nUnderstand the basics of computer hardware and macOS/Windows operating systems\nHave introductory knowledge of, or exposure through coursework/homelabs to, Linux environments (like RedHat/CentOS) and basic command-line navigation (Bash)\nGrasp foundational networking concepts and are interested in getting hands-on with enterprise gear (especially Cisco ASAs and switches)\nBonus points if you have exposure to: Cloud hosting (AWS/Azure), virtualization (VMware), or database administration (SQL Server/MySQL) - but we’re happy to teach you!\n Soft Skills & Compliance\nAre effective at communicating with customers, colleagues, and management, with a knack for customer service\nCan confidently pass a rigorous fingerprint-based state and federal background screening and drug screening, as required by the nationwide agencies we work with (mandatory)\nDo not require sponsorship to work in the U.S.; sponsorship is not available for this position\nBenefits\nThis is a paid internship at $16/hour - earn while you gain real-world professional experience\nOur office is based in Tallahassee, so your internship would be local\nWe offer schedules that are flexible with your classes and school activities\nLast, but not least, loving your job!
