We think you'll find it a rewarding and nurturing place to grow your career.\nStarting Salary Range: $23.00 - $23.00The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for an Environmental Engineer Intern in our Environmental Services Department.\nPosition Summary:\nJob Type: Full-Time Summer Internship\nDates: May 17, 2027 - August 13, 2027\nPay Rate: $23.00 per hour.\nThe BWL Environmental Services Department is responsible for overseeing compliance with environmental regulations pertaining to air, water, waste, remediation and drinking water. The Environmental Engineer Intern will learn from, and be supervised by, a mentor of the Environmental Services Department.\n Essential Functions:\nThe intern will work in the Environmental Compliance and Laboratory teams assisting with:Creating procedures and checklists to assist with various environmental compliance activities, record retention and file review.\nPublishing tank and chemical inventories to the SharePoint page.\nDeveloping SharePoint form for data collection (e.g., SESC inspection reports, or Spill Incident Reporting Forms).\nPerform field work - assist with emergency response and inspections.\nUp to 4 hours working in the environmental laboratory consisting of Quanti-Tray analysis (bacteria count) and prepping glassware.\n\nThe intern is expected to:Utilizes standard office software (i.e., spreadsheet, word-processing, database) and SAP.\nAttend training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA.\nComply with all BWL policies and work rules.\nHave predictable and reliable attendance.\n\nJob Specifications:\nCurrently enrolled in an accredited educational institution with an emphasis on environmental engineering, chemistry, or science related field with junior or senior status during the summer of 2027.\nMust be enrolled in fall classes 2027.\nMinimum GPA of 3.0.\n\nPhysical Requirements / Working Conditions:\nThe physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office environment, including the use of stairs. Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead. The person in this position needs to move about in industrial environments and on uneven terrain occasionally.
