Interns enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work environment throughout this 11-week summer program. The Ignite Internship Program also offers participants mentorship, educational seminars, volunteer opportunities, and visibility within the organization.This Intern will work directly with the SJIU, Utility Shared Services Team which includes Emergency Preparedness, Compliance (PHMSA and NJBPU), DOT Compliance, Standards, Quality Assurance, Records, GIS and CAD/Drafting teams.\nEssential Functions:\nSupport the Emergency Preparedness, Compliance, DOT Compliance, Standards, Quality Assurance, Records, GIS and CAD/Drafting departments on various projects and tasks.\nAssist the Standards Department in assuring that Company Standards are kept current with the Federal, State, and local requirements as well as natural gas industry best practices.\nReview current Standards and recommend changes.\nBasic drafting of Standard Details.\nAssist in the review of new materials and tools proposed for the company.\nAssist the Compliance and DOT Departments in the preparation of reports and analysis regarding transmission and distribution compliance and quality assurance activities.\nParticipate in business and functional meetings to understand reporting/data requirements.\nAssist the Emergency Preparedness Department in the planning and review of drills and exercises related to Gas Utility practices.\nReview Emergency Preparedness documents for conformance with Federal and State codes as well as industry’s best practices.\nAssist in performing field audits and inspections to ensure internal employees and contractors are performing tasks in compliance with organization manuals and regulatory requirements.\nParticipate in group meetings related to Quality Assurance. Present results of work, interpret data, and draw conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work.\nExamine documents to verify completeness and accuracy of data and resolve discrepancies with document originators.\nMap existing utilities for land development, asset management and utility projects. This typically includes generating a variety of GIS products and performing data searches and retrievals.\nAssist in the design, development, testing and implementation of GIS applications to meet customer needs and enterprise requirements; developing and maintaining GIS databases; and keeping track of utility information received from various sources and perform data conversion from field survey and record documents.\nQualifications\nRequired Background:\nHigh School Diploma or GED\nTypically requires less than 1 year of related experience\nPursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree, with a graduation date of Fall 2026 or later\nThe ideal candidate would be a rising Junior or Senior, however, all students are welcome for consideration\nRequired Skills:\nStrong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills\nDetail-oriented with strong time-management skills\nProficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)\nAbility to prioritize and organize work in a multi-tasked environment\nPreferred Skills:\nAbility to read and interpret codes (Federal, State, Industry, Company, etc.)\nAbility to read and interpret simple engineering documents and drawings\nBasic drafting experience (AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, etc.)\nTechnical writing skill and/or experience \nAbility to perform basic or introductory engineering calculations\nExplore the Possibilities\nSouth Jersey Industries employs a diverse range of talent - from construction contractors to environmental specialists.
