The role involves managing all on-site operations and will be the main contact for prison leadership. Additionally, the incumbent will address any issues that come up with regard to the academic experience, from attendance to addressing needs for the classroom space. This position will engage with college students at the prison, correctional staff, faculty, program staff, UB administrative staff, and other stakeholders to effectively deliver a high-quality college program at JCI. This position will work both on campus and on-site at JCI to implement all academic programming including, but not limited to, overseeing the admissions, financial aid, enrollment, and academic advising of all students. Working with various departments at the University will be a key role and necessary component of operating the program. Additionally, key responsibilities will involve supervising program support staff, student workers, and volunteers.Since the role requires both working on campus and at Jessup Correctional Institution, a criminal background check is required as a condition of employment.\nResponsibilities:\nMaintain professional and positive relationships with prison administration to ensure the delivery of UBalt academic programming. Ensure that all services provided at JCI are within the guidelines of the program MOU and Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services policies. \nProvide guidance to students in program, including financial standing of active on-campus students. Interpret and explain academic policies to students and faculty, including but not limited to withdrawing, plagiarism standards, grievance procedures, and other issues outlined in the academic catalog. \nAssist in the coordination of the grant identification, application, compliance and management in support of the program initiatives. Contribute to the archival component surrounding the program, changing industry policies, support for the program, center, and students. \nMaintain databases of program outputs and outcomes. Assist in the management of course selection and class scheduling activities each semester. Work across colleges/programs at UBalt to ensure the number and type of courses offered each semester allow for students' progression along the degree program. \nRecruit, train, supervise, and support all on-site staff, such as student assistants, support staff, volunteers, and instructors. \nWork as liaison between JCI students and UBalt offices in regard to admissions, enrollment, financial aid, student advising, and student support services. \nMinimum Qualifications:\nMaster's Degree in a related field\nTwo years of progressively responsible professional experience working in higher education administration, with some supervisory experience.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nPhD in higher education or other related field\nExperience working within college departments such as: student advising, admissions, financial aid, registration\nExperience working inside correctional facilities, or with similar government agencies\nExperience working directly with at-risk student populations\nRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities\nThis position requires the following skills and abilities:\nKnowledge of higher education administration, university policies, and academic advising.\nAbility to manage complex projects. \nAbility to interact effectively with key groups and individuals to achieve outcomes.\nAbility to project a professional and positive image of the College and University. \nCritical thinking skills required to solve challenges presented by delivering education in a secure setting.\nAbility to think creatively to solve problems and develop alternative solutions when policies of the campus do not apply to prison setting.\nStrong research skills required to help identify best-practices of delivering higher education inside prisons.\nThe ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.\nThe ability to obtain and maintain clearance at the prison will also be a necessary condition of employment.\nIncumbent will work on campus, at JCI, and offsite to meet with various stakeholders on a regular basis, so reliable access to transportation is required.\nThis position is based at UBalt’s campus, but includes weekly on-site coordination at the prison in Jessup, MD.
