with extensive experience working with Azure SQL databases.\n\nThis engineer will be responsible for the operational readiness, performance, and reliability of this system complex and will be able to manage the response to database incidents as part of logistics operations that run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nOperate and Protect the Estate\n\nMonitor availability, performance, and capacity across all Azure SQL databases using Datadog and native Azure tooling\n\nOwn routine maintenance: statistics, index management, job health, backup verification, and restore testing\n\nRight-size compute and storage, and flag cost optimization opportunities\n\nMaintain database auditing for permission, principal, and schema changes, sent to Datadog\n\nData Movement and Replication\n\nOwn operational reliability of replication and data movement into and between Azure SQL databases\n\nDetect and resolve replication lag, failures, and blocking before they become business-impacting\n\nTake priority direction from Data Platform and Governance on data movement needs Support the migration of remaining SQL Managed Instance workloads to PaaS\n\nIncident Response\n\nAct as primary responder for database-related Pl and P2 incidents\n\nDiagnose and resolve blocking, runaway queries, stale statistics, and resource exhaustion\n\nMaintain database runbooks so any on-call engineer can execute first response\n\nContribute to post-incident reviews with clear root cause and preventive actions\n\nSupport Development Teams\n\nTune inefficient queries using Query Store, DMVs, and execution plan analysis\n\nAdvise on schema design, indexing, and data access patterns for new services\n\nEstablish standard schema deployment patterns for CI/CD\n\nProvision least-privilege database access through infrastructure-as-code and group-based models, with consistent parity across dev, test, and prod\n\nQualifications\n\n5+ years of hands-on SQL Server and Azure SQL experience in production environments\n\nDeep performance tuning: Query Store, DMVs, execution plans, indexing strategy, statistics, and wait analysis\n\nAzure SQL Hyperscale and SQL Managed Instance operations, including replicas, scaling, and backup and restore\n\nExperience with data replication and data movement troubleshooting\n\nStrong T -SQL\n\nInfrastructure-as-code for database resources and access (Terraform preferred) Experience participating in on-call rotations for production systems\n\nClear written English for runbooks, incident updates, and Jira tickets\n\nNice to have:\n\nDatadog Database Monitoring\n\nAzure Monitor and Log Analytics\n\nMicrosoft Entra authentication for Azure SQL, including managed identities\n\nExperience migrating workloads from SQL Managed
