The Energy Security and Resilience research program focuses on assurance of critical energy infrastructure by developing practical and transparent methods for assessing security risk, vulnerabilities, system dependencies and resilience. The programme combines energy-system knowledge with security research, risk analysis, data science and societal perspectives, and validates new approaches through case studies, prototypes and collaboration with industry, authorities and academia.\nAre you interested in how loss of electricity supply propagates through interconnected infrastructure and society, and in using data and AI to model these cascading effects?\nAs a Researcher in energy security, you will develop methods and digital tools for assessing cascading effects from loss of electricity supply. The role combines knowledge of power generation and grid operation with dependency modelling, open-source information and AI-supported analysis. The objective is to identify how outages propagate to end users, critical societal functions, infrastructure systems and industrial activities, and to translate this knowledge into future DNV assurance services for assessing energy-system resilience and societal consequences.\nYour main responsibilities include:\nDevelop a consistent method for assessing direct and cascading effects from partial or complete loss of electricity supply\nIdentify and model dependencies between power supply, end users, critical societal functions, infrastructure systems and industrial activities\nUse open-source information and AI-supported methods to collect, classify and link information on assets, services, dependencies, backup arrangements and consequence pathways\nCombine power-system, geographical and societal data in transparent models that account for outage duration, geographical extent, timing and recovery\nDevelop and validate prototypes through case studies, historical incidents, exercises and expert input\nDocument data sources, assumptions, uncertainty, model limitations and validation results\nTranslate research results into concepts and requirements for future DNV assurance services\nCommunicate methods and results through reports, publications, presentations and demonstrators\nMany of our projects involve collaboration with operators of critical infrastructure and may require access to sensitive information or facilities. Relevant background checks will be conducted, and eligibility for security clearance in Norway may be required.\n The opportunity to shape future DNV assurance services at the intersection of power systems, data science and societal resilience\nApplied research in close collaboration with energy companies, infrastructure operators, authorities and academic partners\nThe opportunity to develop and test digital methods and decision-support tools\nAn interdisciplinary and international research environment\nFlexible working arrangements and opportunities for professional development\nDNV is an Equal Opportunity Employer and gives consideration for employment to qualified applicants without regard to gender, religion, race, national or ethnic origin, cultural background, social group, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age or political opinion. Diversity is fundamental to our culture and we invite you to be part of this diversity.\n Our ideal candidate\nA MSc or PhD in electrical power engineering, energy systems, systems engineering, cybernetics, data science or another relevant discipline\nSolid knowledge of power generation and grid operation, including how loss of supply affects system operation and end users is an advantage\nDocumented experience with dependency analysis, network modelling, consequence modelling, simulation or system-of-systems analysis\nStrong programming and data-analysis skills, together with practical experience using AI or natural language processing to structure and analyse open-source information\nExperience integrating technical, geographical and societal data into transparent models. GIS, knowledge graphs or power-system resilience analysis is an advantage\nYour personal qualities\nSystems-oriented and analytical, with the ability to identify dependencies and consequence pathways across sectors\nAble to structure incomplete information into transparent, traceable and explainable models\nCollaborative and able to work across power-system, data-science, risk and societal-resilience disciplines\nClear written and verbal communicator in English; Norwegian language skills are an advantage\nSecurity and compliance with statutory requirements in the countries in which we operate is essential for DNV. Background checks will be conducted on all final candidates as part of the offer process, in accordance with applicable country-specific laws and practices.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5055,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"master","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"Norwegian","level":"All levels","optional":true},{"language":"English","level":"Upper-Intermediate (B2)","optional":false}]},"benefits":["Flexible schedule","Professional development"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-21T16:25:37Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":54,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.603,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":11,"expected_fill_days":33,"reasons":["conf:0","stale_co","velocity","win:mid","comp:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-11-02T06:13:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/dnv-energy-security-researcher-cascading-effects","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/dnv-energy-security-researcher-cascading-effects.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-03T03:50:19Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":5206,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-04T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":1755554},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=1755554"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fdnv-energy-security-researcher-cascading-effects"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fdnv-energy-security-researcher-cascading-effects"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fdnv-energy-security-researcher-cascading-effects"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/dnv-energy-security-researcher-cascading-effects\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fdnv-energy-security-researcher-cascading-effects"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3015161}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"dnv.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3015161},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
