If so, the beautiful Te Manahuna Twizel District is calling you! \nOur Biodiversity team is looking for a Ranger to help implement weed control in a range of unique ecosystems. \nFixed term January to April 2027, full-time role based in Twizel \nSalary range: $62,192 - $67,446 \nOur vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa | Te Oranga o te Ao Tūroa\nMō te tūranga | About the role\nTe Manahuna - Twizel Biodiversity Threats team is looking for an experienced person to join their close-knit team.\nAs a Biodiversity Threats Ranger your focus across the district will be implementing weed control in a range of ecosystems including alpine, tussock grasslands, large scale contiguous forest ecosystems and other significant natural and protected areas within the district.\nThe successful applicant will be able to work successfully as part of a small team and have sound experience in a variety of weed control methods.\nTasks may include but are not limited to:\nWeed control management, including the use of herbicides, manual removal, mechanical control, scrub-bars, and biological control methods. \nEnsuring spray dairies are complete for any weed control to the level required for thirdly reporting and audit trails. \nEnsuring health & safety standards are adhered to and fit-for-purpose and ensuring all incidents/near misses and other required reporting are completed in a timely manner. \nDeveloping successful relationships across the Department and with external stakeholders. \nClick here for the Role Description\nNgā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience\nThe successful applicant must have the ability to apply appropriate control methods for a wide range of weed species and have good species-identification skills.\nFor this role you must be physically fit and capable of working in rugged environments.\nThe successful applicant will have:\nCurrent or previous GrowSafe certificate. \nFull NZ driver’s licence. \nAbility to identify both native and invasive plant species. \nExperience in monitoring, managing, and reporting on weed control operations. \nPractical problem-solving skills, the ability to think on your feet and use initiative. \nA strong commitment to exceptional health and safety work practices and ability to promote this culture among colleagues. \nDesirable:\nComputer-literate, including experience using Microsoft Suite and GIS applications. \nExperience and/or qualifications in working with chainsaws, 4WD vehicles and other field-based equipment. \nExperience using scrub bars and trailers. \nCurrent first aid certificate. \nDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of Tikanga Māori and Te Ao Māori. \nMō te tīma | About the team\nThe team in Twizel is a committed and passionate group, highly invested in protecting and promoting the unique biodiversity of the beautiful Te Manahuna/Mackenzie region.
