Includes senior to technical expert engineers, able to perform difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter and significant experience within functional assignment area. Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards. At higher levels of proficiency within this classification, incumbents are expected to provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed. Provides guidance to less experienced Engineers. May be required to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to major projects that have significant impact on programs in varied areas and related fields. May serve as a technical expert on engineering related legal and regulatory issues to outside entities.\nThe candidate will provide technical support for Dominion Energy Electric Transmission field operations, focusing on transformers, switches, breakers, voltage regulators, circuit breakers, and instrument transformers from managing vendor relationships, to operation, to decommissioning, and (when applicable) root cause analyses (RCA). As novel challenges arise, the candidate develops the necessary knowledge base and engineering capabilities to address them.\nCandidates should have 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, with knowledge of engineering principles and practices, preferably in electric power systems. A working knowledge of SAP software is also preferred\n Job Responsibilities\nEquipment supplier relationship building & maintenance, provide support to ensure production capacity is maintained for Dominion Energy's requirements, and strive to mitigate supplier lock-in\nDevelop & document design requirements of major substation equipment and maintain with Annual reviews\nPerform design reviews and factory acceptance tests (FATs) of equipment while in production for domestic and international suppliers\nAnalyze & support the qualification of new suppliers of equipment\nProvide support to the equipment procurement processes\nSupport Dominion field organizations in: responses to equipment emergencies\nmaterial specification\ndesign validation and innovation\nroot cause analysis (RCAs) of failure events\ncommissioning & decommissioning\ndevelop training and/or guidelines to support field organizations’ maintenance and response to system events relating to substation equipment\n\nSupport the development, and demonstration of leading-edge tools, technologies, and applications to maintain Dominion's leadership position in the industry.\n Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience\nThe knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:\nSenior Engineer: 5-6+ years of relevant engineering experience;\nStaff Engineer: 8+ years of relevant engineering experience;\nFull knowledge of engineering theories and principles; \nSkilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines; \nStrong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead; \nStrong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing); \nStrong personal computer skills; \nAbility to think analytically and solve complex problems; \nAbility to interpret codes, regulations and practices; \nIn depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.); \nEqually effective working independently or in team environment; \nProven decision making skills; \nAbility to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks; \nStrong planning, organizational and project management skills.\n Education Requirements\nRequired Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):\nBachelor’s\nPreferred Discipline(s): Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering\nREQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:\nFor placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:\nPossess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or \nPossess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or \nPossess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or\nHolds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license\nLicenses, Certifications, or Quals Description\nA professional engineer license is preferred but not required\nWorking Conditions\nDust / Grease / Oil Up to 25%\nEnergized Wires Up to 25%\nOffice Work Environment 76 -100%\nTravel Up to 25%\nOutdoors Up to 25%\nOther Working Conditions\nPlease note that this role will require domestic & international travel up to 25% to ensure oversight of suppliers.
